Job description

The Refrigeration Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of all hotel refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment. This includes walk-in coolers, freezers, kitchen chillers, guest room minibars, HVAC systems, and any other refrigeration units within the property. The technician ensures all systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with relevant health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair refrigeration systems including walk-in freezers, cold rooms, chillers, and minibar units.

  • Perform routine maintenance on HVAC and refrigeration systems to ensure operational efficiency.

  • Troubleshoot system malfunctions and replace defective components such as compressors, motors, thermostats, and fan motors.

  • Maintain logs of all repairs, maintenance schedules, and refrigerant usage per environmental regulations.

  • Install new refrigeration systems as required in kitchens, restaurants, and storage areas.

  • Monitor and maintain the proper operation of hotel air-conditioning units.

  • Assist in energy conservation programs by maintaining system performance and recommending efficiency improvements.

  • Follow all hotel safety and sanitation policies and procedures.

  • Respond promptly to guest and departmental maintenance requests.

  • Coordinate with external contractors for major repairs when necessary.

  • Diploma or technical certification in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning or a related field.

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the hospitality industry.

  • In-depth knowledge of commercial refrigeration systems and HVAC equipment.

  • EPA certification or equivalent for handling refrigerants (if required by local laws).

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical manuals.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and on-call rotations as needed.
