Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)

Discipline Lead of the Hardware Engineering Department for CBTC scope, covering, Electronic design, HW Electrical and Mechanical Design, HW standards compliance and Industrial Activities. The HW Engineering Discipline Lead looks to streamline existing process, tools and practices with the aim to bring in efficiency and lower design turnaround time from concept to delivery.

The HW Engineering process referent is responsible for 4 Key areas, maintaining HW skills, maintaining HW Engineering

Tools/Environments, Leading improvement initiatives & KPI generation/maintenance and capitalization.

While looking for continuous improvements, the HW Engineering process referent ensures measures and techniques being applied are homogeneous at department level, and in compliance with the latest CENELEC standards

Key Accountabilities

  • Address the required evolution of the HW Engineering skills, processes and tools to improve engineering competitiveness and maturity, and to prepare technical expertise for future technologies.

  • Maintain skill assessment of employees, introspect, and provide recommendations to close identified gaps and help with the creation and maintenance of training materials and user documentation.

  • Provide training and technical support to help bridge the gaps in process, tooling, and skillsets.

  • Follow user feedback and constant evolution of tools to propose the best solution.

  • Support the evaluation and the implementation of new Tools for Design and Management (workbenches, simulation tools, configuration management tools such as Shared Palma, etc.)

  • Participates actively in the Hardware Engineering environment deployment.

  • Participates in the process and environment setup definition.

  • Monitors the Capitalization loop including Cost model capitalization data.

  • Conducts internal Lessons Learned and coordinates implementation of improvements with stakeholders.

  • Process compliance monitoring: monitor the application of the process through regular audits + corresponding reporting.

  • Lead Implementation of department dedicated Engineering Improvement initiatives to contribute to the overall performance of HW Engineering .

  • Looks for continuous improvements in terms of measures and techniques applied.

  • Participates actively in cross functional workshops.

  • Focal point for process interface into the other technical departments

  • Interface to Hitachi Management System process owner or other discipline process referent to drive and support process changes / adjustments / clarifications.

  • In charge of defining and reporting on key Metrics and KPI’s across the HW Engineering department.

  • On-time delivery (OTD) KPI, estimate attributes (EA) KPI, Project Efficiency / Root causes analysis / CONQ KPI,

  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism in the job and in relations with others. Communicates with internal and external stakeholders at any level in a confident manner and acts as a Change Management Agent

Key Requirements

  • +8 years relevant working experience

  • University degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, System Engineering, or a closely related field.

  • Knowledge of Tools like Solid Edge, Creo, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, PTC Windchill and DOORs/Polarion would be an asset.

  • Knowledge of railway signalling technologies would be an asset

  • Experience of CENELEC 5012x application in rail industry

  • Proven expertise and experience in the application of Engineering best-practices & methodologies, and improvement of Engineering Design Development and Validation Cycle

  • Must be able to communicate clearly complex situations to different stakeholders.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple priorities.

  • Knowledgeable of the Hardware Engineering development processes

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; English speaking mandatory

  • Excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills needed to deal confidently, courteously, and correctly with both internal and external stakeholders and customers at any level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in leading transformational activities

  • Open to investigating and understanding new approaches, technically or process wise.

  • Effective negotiating skills

Salary Range: $104,313 – $133,734
