Job description

Job Title: Linux Systems Administrator

Location: Fairfax, VA

Interview: In-Person

Duration: Full-time 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and deployment of large-scale systems. These systems are running tens to thousands of servers per site, installed at dozens of locations worldwide. The candidate must be able to operate under general guidance with limited direct supervision.
  • You will be part of a development, deployment, integration, and support team. This position will provide second tier support to the operating system and primary support to all other users, including 100+ software developers.
  • The systems are 99.9% Linux (RedHat 5/6/7), with some (< 10) Windows Server 2008/2012 Systems.
  • The system administrator must have a general understanding of IP networks, routing, switching, VLANs, and multicast.
  • Candidate must readily adapt to changing requirements; keep up-to-date on emerging technologies and be ready to help implement these new products and technologies to enhance the system.

Technical Requirements

  • Experience with Linux (Red Hat desired)
  • RedHat clustering
  • Enterprise Service – LDAP, DNS
  • HP Proliant series servers
  • HP and IBM SAN products
  • Fiber channel storage networks
  • Clustered or parallel file systems (e.g., GPFS, GFS, OCFS2)
  • System security, hardening, and accreditation (e.g. DCID 6/3, ICD-503)
  • Automated OS installation
  • Virtualization – Vmware, Red Hat Xen, Amazon Web Services
  • Oracle database servers (single node, and RAC)
  • System performance monitoring, and tuning
  • Performing, monitoring, and designing system backup plans
  • Create, debug, and enhance scripts (e.g. bash, csh, Perl, ruby, python, expect)
  • Automate repetitive tasks
  • Basic knowledge of switching, routing, IP addressing, and networks
  • Experience with multicast
  • Train others on system operation and maintenance duties
  • Source code control systems, both use, and administration (cvs, subversion, git)
  • Configuration and use of - nat, dns, ldap, nis, nfs, iptables

Education

  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer related discipline is desired but not mandatory.
  • A candidate may substitute relevant work experience.
