Job description
The Voice/Data Engineer directs and participates in all activities related to the selection and installation of telephone facilities and special on-premises equipment that will meet the customer's communication requirements. The Voice/Data Engineer is responsible for all technology and connectivity involving telecommunications and data networks. The Voice/Data Engineer will typically specialize in telephony and data interfaces and systems that have proprietary functions within the communications area of a corporation/business. General wiring excluded, the Voice/Data Engineer ensures that any specialized conduit or wiring is properly deployed and installed according to code. The Voice/Data Engineer is also an expert in audio/visual, teleconferencing, and voice mail equipment. Often times, the Voice/Data Engineer is specialized or is certified in a particular piece of equipment.
Role Description
- Provide First level support in the IT communications group
- Support / Maintenance / Service Desk requests
- Monitor and support the performance of all network infrastructure
- Utilize Solarwinds ORION to research & diagnose problems
- Provide front-line interaction with the User Community
- Support Adds/Moves/Changes
- VOIP Phone system
- Network connectivity
- Provide post implementation break/fix support
- Other network projects as assigned
- Perform root cause analysis, debugging, and problem resolution
- Follow Change Management processes and procedures
- Create and maintain requirements, documentation, and procedures.
- Develop and maintain configuration documentation
- Communicate both verbally and in writing with managers, other network support staff and with business unit users
- Perform capability/knowledge transfer to staff
- Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Required Skills: Cisco Route\Switch – 2-3 Years 2 year college degree or equivalent technical study CCNA route/switch & CCNA voice or equivalent technical knowledge Experience/Expertise in the following areas: Cisco Route/Switch (Configuration & Troubleshooting); Cisco Unified Communications: Call Manager (latest version); Unity; Presence; Voice Gateways; Phones; ATAs Network monitoring/management systems Experience/Expertise working with: Nortel PBX - Option 81/61/11 – Nortel; Command line Experience/Expertise working with: Solarwinds Orion (latest version); Experience/Expertise working with: Cisco WAAS; Experience/Expertise working with: Cisco WCS – wireless bridging & Aps; Experience/Expertise working with: Cisco Nexus Switches; Digi Terminal Servers Experience/Expertise working with: Cisco IPICS 2.2(1) & 4.x ; Cisco 809 cellular routers Experience/Expertise working with: Microsoft Office Products
