Job description

  • Job Functions Provide Engineering and technical support for DTNA Fuel Economy testing related projects as well as other projects when necessary. Aid in the development and refinement of DTNA Fuel Economy test procedures. Develop statistical and mathematical tools and computer algorithms to enhance DTNA Fuel Economy data analysis capabilities and efficiency. Assist engineers and technicians in hands-on instrumentation of vehicles and engines when needed. Provide direction to technicians and mechanics in assembling test vehicles and installing components when needed. Interface with Design Engineering in ensuring test vehicles are design intent representative at all times. Assist in developing new vehicle instrumentation systems to enhance DTNA on-road data collection capabilities. Aid in the development of DTNA Fuel Economy computer simulation tools and the validation of tools. Responsible for organizing and maintaining vehicle test data from past and present test activities. Order test parts and instrumentation as needed for testing. Assist in creating standardized test documentation, procedures and analysis methodologies for future use. Maintain an organized, clean work environment per DTNA standards.

 Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 2 years of experience OR an Associates degree with 4 years of experience in a related field required
Ability to be organized and a highly motivated self-starter required
Excellent communication and analytical skills are required
Posses a CDL (Commercial Drivers License) or have the ability obtain required
Intermediate to expert ability with a data analysis tool or software (Microsoft Excel, Matlab, or similar) required
Familiarity with a high level computer programming code (C, VB, Matlab, etc.) required
Solid understanding of heavy duty vehicle engineering principles and the impacts components and systems have on performance and Fuel Economy required
Experience with or a willing to become familiar with industry test standards and procedures (SAE, TMC, DoE etc) required
Experience with diesel engines and diesel engine technology preferred  
Familiarity with PVE test departments, procedures and tools preferred
Experience in interfacing with various DTNA Engineering Groups, Sales and Customer Service preferred
In-depth knowledge of Daimler Trucks North America products and different vehicle systems and components preferred
Understanding of engineering test instrumentation and data acquisition equipment preferred
