DLZ is seeking a Transportation Engineer – Traffic Operations to serve as a technical specialist supporting Michigan traffic engineering. This role is best suited for a PE with strong experience in traffic analysis, modeling, and traffic control design, who wants to be a go to technical resource within the region. What You’ll Do Perform and lead traffic engineering, traffic analysis, and safety studies for Michigan roadway projects. Develop signal design, signing and pavement marking plans, maintenance of traffic (MOT), and Transportation Management Plans (TMPs). Utilize traffic software such as Synchro/SimTraffic, SIDRA, VISSIM, and/or RODEL. Coordinate with roadway designers and project managers to integrate traffic solutions into MDOT projects. Review drawings and deliverables to ensure conformance with Michigan standards and QC procedures. Prepare specifications, cost estimates, schedules, and client progress reports. Participate in field reviews and support construction phase traffic engineering needs. Assist with business development and proposal support for Michigan transportation clients. What Success Looks Like Recognized internally and externally as a traffic and safety subject matter expert. Delivers clear, defensible traffic analyses that translate into effective design decisions. Maintains strong technical credibility with MDOT, local agencies, and project partners. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. 5–10 years of experience in traffic/transportation engineering. Professional Engineer (PE) license in Michigan or ability to obtain within 6 months. Demonstrated experience with traffic analysis and modeling software. Experience with OpenRoads Designer and/or Civil 3D. Ability to safely access and traverse construction sites in Michigan. Preferred Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification. Experience with MDOT and/or Local Agency Federal Aid projects. GIS experience.
