Position Description The Custom Applications Business Analyst at Applied Medical plays a critical role in bridging business needs and technical solutions within Applied Medical's custom software development environment. This role focuses on internal applications built to support business operations, working closely with development and design teams to ensure custom solutions meet organizational goals. This position contributes to the full software development lifecycle by gathering, analyzing, and documenting requirements, facilitating communication between stakeholders and development teams, and validating that delivered solutions meet business objectives . The Business Analyst partners closely with project managers to coordinate requirement delivery against project timelines, supporting each other through scope management, risk identification, and stakeholder alignment. The Business Analyst also collaborates with developers, designers, and quality analysts to translate business processes into clear, actionable requirements. Key Responsibilities Gather, analyze, and document business requirements for custom application projects, including user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional specifications that enable development teams to deliver effective , and sustainable s olutions. Facilitate stakeholder interviews, workshops, and requirements review sessions to align business needs with custom application capabilities. Analyze and model business processes using Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities. Collaborate with development teams, UX/UI designers, and quality analysts to ensure requirements are clear, testable, and delivered on time. Partner with project managers on scope management, requirements prioritization, timeline coordination, and risk communication to keep custom application initiatives on track. Manage and maintain requirements backlogs in Azure DevOps, ensuring stories are refined and ready for development. Perform data analysis using Excel and Power BI to validate business logic, support requirements decisions, and inform stakeholder conversations. Document business rules, data mapping specifications, and integration requirements for cross-system initiatives. Participate in Agile ceremonies including backlog refinement, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. Success in This Role Looks Like Delivering clear, complete, and testable requirements that development teams can act on without ambiguity. Building trusted relationships with business stakeholders by understanding their needs and communicating progress effectively. Proactively identifying scope risks, dependency conflicts, and requirements gaps before they impact delivery timelines, and coordinating with project managers to address them. Contributing to process improvements in requirements documentation, handoff standards, and team knowledge resources. Communicating effectively across technical and non-technical audiences, translating business language into actionable development tasks. Continuously growing domain knowledge and business analysis expertise to take on broader scope and responsibility. Position Requirements This position requires the following skills and attributes: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration , Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent professional experience. Two to ten years of experience in business analysis, requirements management, or a related role, depending on level . Experience working within Agile development teams and participating in the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). Demonstrated experience supporting or collaborating with project managers on custom application or software development initiatives. Proficiency in requirements elicitation, user story writing, and acceptance criteria definition. Experience with business process modeling using BPMN notation and documentation. Familiarity with Kanban boards or similar work tracking tools for backlog management ( Applied Medical uses Azure DevOps). Proficiency in data analysis using Excel, with working knowledge of Power BI. Experience with business process modeling tools such as Microsoft Visio. Solid understanding of software development processes and how requirements support technical delivery. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with attention to detail. Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to facilitate workshops and present to stakeholders. Collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams including developers, designers, quality analysts, and project managers. Ability to translate between business language and technical language. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Preferred The following skills and attributes are preferred: Agile or Scrum certification (Certified ScrumM aster , SAFe Agilist, or equivalent). Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or similar business analysis certification. Experience with process improvement methodologies and workshop facilitation. Familiarity with data mapping, system integration concepts, and cross-system requirements. Experience working in a medical device, healthcare, or regulated industry environment.
