Job Description:

Join the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and play a key role in supporting programs that serve Nebraskans across the state. We’re seeking a detail-oriented Budget Analyst who brings strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to accuracy and accountability. Examples of Work

As a Budget Analyst, you will:

  • Prepare, forecast, and monitor budgets for aid programs to ensure accurate allocation and compliance with funding requirements.
  • Identify and evaluate federal funding opportunities; document claims and track utilization of federal funds.
  • Develop and submit financial reports, including required federal reporting.
  • Analyze operational and financial metrics for the Division
  • Respond to requests for information , and other information concerning DHHS expenditures and revenues.
  • Develop fiscal estimate for pending legislation and regulation changes 
  • Work with large datasets to extract required information 
  • Perform complex analytical work involving the collection and evaluation of DHHS financial data, budget reports, and other information concerning DHHS expenditures and revenues.
  • Serve as a liaison between programmatic and business operations of the various Divisions within DHHS and the DHHS Financial and Accounting Operations to improve outcomes of the agency.

Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, economics, or public administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in technical budget analysis or fiscal management work.

Preferred Qualifications: Advanced Excel skills with experience handling large datasets; proficiency in MS Access for database querying and working knowledge of SQL.

Other: Position is located on-site at the Nebraska State Office Building in Lincoln.

Must demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills; have problem solving/analysis skills; exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses; a high level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation
