Description:

St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, part of Trinity Health of New England, is seeking an experienced Clinical Director, Behavioral Health to lead inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services. This senior nursing leadership role provides strategic, clinical, and operational oversight for a large, multidisciplinary behavioral health division.

Position Overview

The Clinical Director is accountable for clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, financial performance, and growth of behavioral health services. Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) with a dyad relationship to the Behavioral Health Physician Leader, this role leads over 90 FTEs and serves as a key member of the nursing executive leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services to ensure high‑quality, evidence‑based care

  • Develop and implement policies, programs, and strategic plans aligned with organizational goals

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and patient safety standards

  • Partner with physicians and interdisciplinary leaders to optimize outcomes and patient experience

  • Oversee budgeting, staffing, resource utilization, and performance improvement initiatives

  • Mentor and develop nurse leaders and frontline leaders

  • Support growth initiatives, payer strategy, and new models of behavioral health care delivery

  • BSN and MSN (or related master’s degree) – required

  • Current RN license (CT preferred or ability to obtain)

  • 5–7 years of progressive nursing leadership experience in an acute care setting

  • Behavioral health leadership experience strongly preferred

  • Demonstrated success in physician collaboration, change management, and strategic execution

  • Strong financial, operational, and analytical skills

  • Knowledge of Connecticut healthcare regulations preferred
