Job Summary:
The Stabilization Intervention Specialist provides on-site support to youth experiencing behavioral health crises by implementing trauma-informed, evidence-based interventions that promote safety, emotional stabilization, and risk reduction under the supervision of licensed clinical staff. This role conducts crisis screenings, assists in safety planning, delivers brief coping interventions, documents and communicates behavioral observations, engages caregivers, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams while maintaining compliance with all regulatory, confidentiality, and safety standards in a structured therapeutic environment.
Essential Job Functions:
Provide on-site crisis support to youth experiencing behavioral health emergencies, including suicidal ideation, self-harm behaviors, emotional dysregulation, and acute psychiatric symptoms
Complete crisis screenings, risk observations, and assist in safety planning under the supervision of licensed clinical staff
Support the development and implementation of individualized crisis stabilization and safety plans
Deliver brief, skill-based interventions focused on emotional regulation, coping strategies, and stabilization
Monitor and document changes in mental status and behavior, communicating observations to licensed team members
Engage caregivers in crisis support, education, and safety planning processes
Provide emotional support and psychoeducation to families during high-stress situations
Assist in discharge planning and coordination of aftercare recommendations
Participate in shift handoffs, team meetings, and consultations
Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic milieu within the crisis center
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Utilize evidence-informed, developmentally appropriate, and trauma-informed de-escalation techniques to promote safety
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team including licensed clinicians, nurses, discharge planners, peer specialists, medical providers, and behavioral health technicians
Complete accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in accordance with state and agency requirements
Maintain compliance with confidentiality standards, HIPAA, and mandated reporting laws
Follow all agency policies related to crisis response, safety procedures, and emergency protocols
Experience and Education Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field meeting Missouri Department of Mental Health requirements for Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP)
1–3 years of direct care experience; experience working with children and adolescents preferred
Experience with skill-based interventions and team-based care preferred

Employment Requirements:
Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect, and fingerprint check.
Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.
All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.
Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.
Physical Requirements:
ADA Consideration - Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Repetitive movements of hands, fingers, and arms for typing and/or writing during work shift.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
