Job Summary:
The Insurance Billing Specialist plays a key role in supporting dental operations by ensuring accurate, timely insurance billing and serving as a trusted resource for front office teams. This position works collaboratively with Patient Experience and Dental Patient Access staff to support scheduling, insurance verification, pre‑authorizations, and payment workflows, while providing guidance and training to promote consistency and a positive patient experience.
The ideal candidate is a self‑starter who brings a positive, team‑oriented approach, demonstrates professionalism in all interactions, and is willing to step in and assist where needed to support team success. This role requires strong communication skills, accountability, and the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, patient‑focused environment.
Essential Functions:
Support and guide front office teams by training and assisting Patient Experience and Dental Patient Access Specialists to ensure smooth check‑in and check‑out processes.
Partner with the Customer Service Coordinator to resolve patient concerns related to billing, insurance, and scheduling.
Ensure accurate billing and timely submission of insurance claims, including monitoring claim status, posting adjustments, and supporting collections.
Manage cash handling responsibilities, including daily balancing, deposits, and reconciliation of financial transactions.
Research claim denials, write appeals, and collaborate with insurance carriers to resolve issues efficiently.
Maintain expertise across all Business Office functions, including eligibility verification, pre‑authorizations, billing workflows, reporting, and financial reconciliation
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED, 2-5 years’ experience in a dental/medical office, or any combination of education, experience, and training.
Experience working in a large group practice setting utilizing a team-based philosophy of care and the ability to manage a large volume of patients is preferred.
Preferred (but not required): experience with medical or dental billing, Spanish‑speaking ability, and prior customer service experience.
