Job description

How you'll make a difference As a Senior Practitioner in the Assistive Technology team, you will play a key role in enhancing the quality of services delivered to adults living in the community. Drawing on your specialist care and technical expertise, you will support older and disabled people to maintain their independence, dignity and choice. You will also help drive performance and quality standards across Adult Social Care, ensuring that high-quality, person-centred support is consistently delivered to vulnerable adults in our community. What you will be doing You will take a proactive role in the management of the team, providing expert advice and guidance to both colleagues and members of the public. It will be your responsibility to supervise a range of adult social care professionals, including Occupational Therapists and Assistive Technology Technicians. A key aspect of your role will be building and maintaining effective partnerships with relevant agencies, including the ICB, Sirona and Acute Health Agencies. Together, you will achieve the best outcomes for service users, which may involve developing and implementing multi-agency policies and procedures. Using your professional expertise, you will support staff in managing complex cases, ensuring that considerations around risk, safeguarding, mental capacity and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) are appropriately addressed. You may also hold a caseload to ensure your practice remains current and informed. You will be responsible for ensuring the effective prioritisation and allocation of work, including the management of waiting lists, to maintain an efficient and responsive service. What we need from you We require you to hold a relevant professional qualification such as an Occupational Therapy Diploma and/or degree, and that you are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). It is essential that you have significant post-qualification experience, including working with complex cases within adult social care. You must be able to demonstrate ongoing continuous professional development, alongside a strong understanding of current social care legislation and best practice. You will have the ability to assess, manage and mitigate risk effectively within your role. What you need to know This is an 18 month limited term contract. Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post. You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so must have a full valid driving license with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative appropriate means of travel. Interviews will be held on 2nd June 2026. How a career at South Gloucestershire Council is different As part of our benefits package, you will receive generous annual leave (pro rata), employee wellbeing support and you will have access to a range of staff discounts, including eye tests, travel, shopping and leisure activities. We recognise that our diverse team of skilled and dedicated people make us a great place to work. We welcome applications from everyone and ensure that individuals are selected, promoted and developed on the basis of their merits and abilities. We know our team work best when they have balance in their lives, and we offer genuine flexibility to help them achieve that work/life balance. We value our staff as individuals, investing in their careers and we are recognised for the quality, breadth and depth of our training and development offer, which helps make the greatest long-term difference in work. We trust our team to work in the way which allows them to make the biggest difference, and we continue to invest in technology to help staff do their jobs to the best of their ability and celebrate innovation.
