Job description
Overview The Emergency Paramedic works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse administering care for individuals receiving emergency medical services in the Emergency Department. Collects and documents pertinent patient history, assists ED physicians and RNs with both invasive and non-invasive procedures, and ensures that patients basic care needs are met. Responsibilities Collects and conveys information to RN and physician regarding the health status of patients throughout the visit. Informs patient of their treatment plan and assists the RN in delivering and documenting care provided to the patient. Assists with providing for the physical comfort and safety of patients including moving, turning, getting in and out of bed. Assists with patient care, linen changes, bathing. Assists with patient elimination process, measures/reports I & O, collects, labels and routes specimens within established time constraints. Assists with dietary and food intake and documents same. Initiates lifesaving measures as needed, i.e., opening an airway, ventilation using bag valve mask, hemorrhage control, chest compressions, stabilization of fracture, cervical spine alignment, etc. Stabilizes and extricates injured patients from vehicles at emergency department entrance. Assists patients to and from vehicles and the emergency department. Performs phlebotomy, basic laboratory procedures, wound care and culture procedures, Point of Care testing, EKGs and application of splints. Inserts and discontinues IV catheters in adults & pediatric population. Assists in directing patient flow and traffic in the triage/reception area. Transports patients as directed. All other duties as assigned by department. Qualifications Education / Training High School Diploma/Equivalent Experience Requirements 0 -1 Paramedic experience Preferences: Paramedic and Hospital experience Certificates/Licenses/Registration Florida Paramedic License Basic Life Support (BLS) Non-Abusive Psychological & Physical Intervention (NAPPI) Preferences: PALS preferred. ACLS preferred. Additional Information: BLS, provided by American Heart Association (AHA), required within 30 days of hire. Must successfully complete NAPPI training (Non-Abusive Psychological & Physical Intervention) within 90days of employment; annual re-certification will be required thereafter.
