Job description

Overview Part-time. 48 hours per 2-week pay period. benefits eligible . The Transporter provides safe, timely, and courteous transportation for patients to and from designated areas of the hospital. Responsibilities Provides efficient transportation for patients both to and from requesting service areas. Uses wheelchairs, stretchers, beds in an appropriate fashion. Assists patient in and out of wheelchair and stretchers using proper wheel locking procedures. Cleans wheelchairs and stretchers and reports needed repairs to supervisor. Reports to the primary nurse for all transfers in/out of unit and replaces chart or other paper work in appropriate manner. Informs nursing staff that patient has been returned to room before leaving unit. Demonstrates knowledge of oxygen tank use/storage and IV pumps/poles. Uses proper lifting techniques as demonstrated in annual body mechanics in-service. Respectfully transports expired patients to morgue. Coordinates the selection and use of supplies, minor equipment, X-Rays, reports, and files between departmental units as needed. Coordinates schedules of equipment and personnel and maintains an efficient workflow. Provides care based on knowledge of physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area (pediatric, adult, geriatric). Establishes eye contact with patients, smiles, initiates appropriate conversation. Always confirms patient identity by armband check. Qualifications Education / Training High School Diploma/Equivalent Experience Requirements 0 - 1 year Hands-on Patient Care/Transportation Preferences: Medical background. Certificates/Licenses/Registration Basic Life Support (BLS) NAPPI Certification Additional Information: BLS, provided by American Heart Association (AHA), required within 30 days of hire. Completion of NAPPI training (Non-Abusive Psychological & Physical Intervention) within 90 days of employment; annual recertification will be required thereafter.
