Job description

This vacancy is open to employees of Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust only.

NHS Band 3:  Salary £25,760 - £27,476 per annum 

Hours per Week:  37.5 

Contract Type: Permanent

We are recruiting a Band 3 Occupational Health Technician to join our integrated Occupational Health and Wellbeing Service, working collaboratively across Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust and Isle of Wight NHS Trust.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a supportive, forward-thinking multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality occupational health services to NHS staff and external clients. You will play an important role in supporting staff health and wellbeing while developing a broad range of clinical skills within occupational health.

This role is primarily focused on delivering health surveillance programmes and undertaking phlebotomy, working under the supervision of experienced occupational health professionals. You will support the efficient delivery of clinics and contribute to a high-quality, responsive service.

Main Duties

  • Deliver a range of health surveillance activities including audiometry, spirometry (training provided if required), and vision and skin assessments
  • Undertake phlebotomy in line with Trust policies and national guidance
  • Support occupational health screening clinics for NHS staff and commercial clients
  • Accurately record clinical data using electronic occupational health systems
  • Ensure clinical equipment is maintained, calibrated, and safe for use
  • Provide effective clinic and administrative support to the Occupational Health team
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to data protection standards
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support service delivery

  • Has NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent experience) or is willing to work towards this

Experience: 

  • Has experience in a healthcare or clinical environment
  • Has experience of, or an interest in developing, health surveillance skills and/or phlebotomy
  • Demonstrates good IT skills and attention to detail
  • Understands the importance of confidentiality, data protection, and professional boundaries
  • Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Can work independently as well as part of a team
