Description of Work
The Mechanical Construction Manager provides technical oversight and operational coordination for complex mechanical construction activities across multi‑million‑dollar projects within DECM‑Construction. The role manages construction workflows using Critical Path Method scheduling, oversees project execution and compliance milestones, and ensures effective planning, manpower utilization, and resource allocation. This position operates within a multi‑trade construction environment and supports field teams through technical guidance, administrative supervision, and coordination of procurement, inspections, and project documentation.Key Duties Include:
-Managing construction activities and schedules using Critical Path Method (CPM) tools to support timely project execution.
-Coordinating and monitoring on‑site project progress, including participation in schedule compliance meetings and forecasting future completion dates.
-Providing mechanical trade expertise and guidance to support construction planning, field operations, and technical decision‑making.
-Supervising full‑time, contract, and offender labor resources and ensuring effective deployment and training.
-Overseeing procurement of equipment and materials in coordination with project and administrative teams.
-Conducting project inspections, monitoring construction quality, and ensuring adherence to project requirements.
-Managing project documentation, reporting, and administrative processes to support construction delivery.
-Supporting collaboration across project stakeholders to maintain efficient coordination throughout all project phases.
Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.

Salary Range: $70,478.00-123,336.00

Work Location and Schedule
This position has a duty station at the DECM Office Complex off Yonkers Road in Raleigh, NC. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The normal work schedule is Monday – Thursday, 7:00am – 5:30pm and may require some weekend work and overnight travel to meet the demands of the organization.

- Thorough knowledge of repair, maintenance and construction techniques and of the tools, methods, practices, materials and equipment used in the building and mechanical trades.
- Working knowledge of building codes, environmental rules and all other rules and regulations governing repair, maintenance and construction of facilities.
- Ability to direct journey level work in a variety of trades, to read schematics and blueprints, to sketch or review technical drawings, to estimate repair and construction projects, and to perform paraprofessional engineering projects.
- Ability to train, direct and supervise subordinates and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Bachelor's degree in Facilities or Construction Management or related Engineering field from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in construction or facility maintenance including three (3) years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Associate’s degree in construction management, Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Technology, Industrial Maintenance Technology, or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and six (6) years progressive experience in construction or facility maintenance including three (3) years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities.
