Position Summary:
The Radiation Medicine Program at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is a global leader in radiation oncology, combining clinical excellence with cutting-edge research to improve cancer outcomes. A key emerging challenge in modern radiation oncology is the safe and efficient planning of re-irradiation treatments, where patients receive radiation therapy after prior courses of treatment. Accurate assessment of historical radiation dose is critical but often limited by fragmented and poorly structured legacy data.
This project aims to address this challenge through the development of an automated machine-learning pipeline to curate and classify historical radiotherapy treatments. Leveraging deep-learning auto-segmentation and dosimetric feature extraction, the system will generate structured summaries of prior treatments to support both clinical decision-making and large-scale research. The Summer Student will contribute directly to the development, validation, and deployment of this pipeline on institutional treatment data, helping enable a transformative improvement in re-irradiation workflows.
Duties:
- Perform data mining and quality-control for large clinical datasets.
- Implement a large language model (LLM) and AI agent to analyze and organize historical radiation treatment planning data.
- Contribute to the development of a structured database summarizing prior radiotherapy treatments.
- Develop a WPF application provides a user interface to the AI agent for use in clinical treatment planning workflows.
- Assist with preparation of research outputs including abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts.
