Raytheon’s Lifecycle Engineering (LCE) team is hiring for a highly motivated Senior Principal Human Factors Engineer. This is an onsite role and will be based in our Tewksbury, MA location.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the development, integration, and oversight of enterprise-level or multi-program MIL-STD-1472 compliant Human Factors programs.
  • Serve as the technical authority for Human Factors Engineering (HFE) across programs, ensuring consistency, rigor, and alignment with customer expectations.
  • Drive Human Factors strategy across integrated product teams to proactively eliminate hazards and influence system architecture decisions early in the lifecycle.
  • Provide expert guidance to program leadership, engineering disciplines, and customers on Human Factors methods, standards, and trade-offs.
  • Establish and maintain strong customer relationships, acting as a primary interface for Human Factors across government and contractor stakeholders.
  • Influence program execution from concept development through production, sustainment, and disposal, ensuring Human Factors considerations are embedded throughout.
  • Lead Human Factors planning, hazard analyses, and design analyses across multiple programs or complex systems.
  • Provide technical oversight, review, and approval of Human Factors artifacts (plans, analyses, reports, and assessments).
  • Brief senior leadership, customers, and review boards on Human Factors risks, insights, and recommendations.
  • Interpret and shape system requirements, customer specifications, and applicable standards.
  • Drive cross-disciplinary integration to ensure Human Factors considerations are embedded in system architecture and design decisions.
  • Mentor and develop junior and mid-level Human Factors engineers.
  • Lead and facilitate Human Factors Working Groups and contributing to System Safety Working Groups and Engineering Review Boards.
  • Support proposal development, Basis of Estimates (BOEs), and strategic capture activities related to Human Factors scope.
  • Ensure alignment of Human Factors efforts with cost, schedule, and technical performance objectives.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience
  • Experience with DoD Human Factors Programs (e.g., MIL-STD-1472) and application across the system lifecycle.
  • Experience with development and execution of Human Engineering Program Plans, Assessments, and/or Analyses across systems or multiple programs.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams through system design decisions.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Active and existing DoD clearance (Secret or Top Secret)
  • Strong familiarity with Engineering Change Proposals, Engineering Review Boards, Human Factors Working Groups, and System Safety Working Groups.
  • Advanced experience with digital human modeling and simulation tools.
  • Expertise in manpower/personnel analysis and Human Performance Modeling (e.g., cognitive workload, crew endurance).
  • Experience in Personnel Survivability and/or Habitability analysis.
  • Experience applying Human Factors to training systems, simulators, and complex user interfaces.
  • Strong background in Human Factors requirements development and verification.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS), proposal development, and capture strategy.

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
