Job description
Job Overview The Certified Nurse Midwife is a member of the healthcare team who works in the independent management of women's health care, focusing particularly on pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, care of the newborn, and the family planning and gynecological needs of women. The Certified Nurse Midwife practices within the Fairview health care system that provides for consultation, collaborative management or referral as indicated by the health status of the client. Certified Nurse Midwives practice in accord with the Standards of the Practice of Nurse Midwifery, as defined by the American College of Nurse Midwives. Responsibilities Assess health status of women arriving at appropriate diagnosis(es) using advanced practice knowledge and skills. Performs a comprehensive assessment of each patient’s health including a thorough physical examination and health history. Performs/orders preventative and diagnostic procedures based on the patient's age and history. Manages health screening and health promotion of women including disease prevention. Identifies health and medical risk factors. Identifies acute and chronic health problems. Appropriately orders and accurately interprets diagnostic results. Delegates direct and indirect patient care activities to appropriate personnel. Responds appropriately to emergent situations. Develops and implements an individualized plan of care Establishes collaborative agreements with physician(s). Collaborates with health care team members in developing realistic care expectations. Performs appropriate medical procedures within scope of practice as defined by FVC Credentialing and Privileging process. Determines effectiveness of treatment plan with documentation of patient care outcomes. Revises and modifies the care plan as needed to achieve health and medical goals. Refers care to other health care professionals and community agencies as needed or when care is not within scope of practice. Prescribes pharmacologic (including controlled substances) and non-pharmacologic agents. Communicates effectively with patients and family for understanding of diagnosis, treatment plan, and need for follow-up care. Provides education to patients, families or caregivers as needed. Documents according to established guidelines to facilitate ongoing quality care in a timely manner. Takes actions to ensure continuity of care for patients. Contributes to effective and efficient practice management policies and practices that support patient access to medical care. Participates in access planning for the clinic site, ensuring appropriate amount of same day patient access. Meets number of clinic patient contact hours as outlined in clinic policies. Collaborates in establishing personal numbers of relative value units to be budgeted and achieves targeted goal. Supports appropriate billing for professional service through timely documentation and maintaining adequate knowledge of FVC billing policies and procedures. Adheres to all relevant policies, procedures, and practice guidelines. Assists with the preparation for JCAHO and other regulatory surveys. Responds to telephone calls/communication in a timely fashion Manages patient care through appropriate use of available resources. Appropriately prescribes and orders ancillary services. Utilizes Fairview referral network appropriately. Manages chronic health/disease conditions. Provides leadership for clinic and community relations Serves as a resource to support staff, enhancing quality of care. Participates in the training, orientation, and evaluation of clinic support staff. Provides continuing education learning to community and other professional groups as requested. Regularly attends and actively participates in clinic staff meetings, MPOC or Physician/AP staff meetings Participates in appropriate committee structure Participates in community education and other professional activities to promote Fairview Health Services and the site. Required Qualifications Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and ACNM accredited nurse midwife educational program Certified Nurse Midwife Certified through the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM)/American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) MN Registered Nurse (RN) License Current DEA At minimum, three years of experience. The actual rate of pay offered within this range may depend on several factors, such as FTE, skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions.
