As our new Junior-level Environmental Scientist, you will play an important role on our Land Quality and Remediation team.
Role
Your passion for fieldwork and the environment will see you executing and leading a variety of programs related to the assessment, monitoring, management, and remediation of contaminated sites. No two days will be the same as you lead and support different aspects of varied projects at a range of urban and remote sites including upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas facilities, commercial and industrial properties, and federal and municipal sites.
Your knowledge and experience will be invaluable to our team and will see you involved in the full life cycle of projects as you assist the project manager with budgeting, planning, coordinating, and executing projects, data analysis and reviews, and reporting. Responsibilities
- Participating in all facets of environmental or contaminated site projects including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, remediation programs, and long-term environmental monitoring and maintenance of sites.
- Participating in fieldwork programs involving sampling and monitoring of soil, groundwater, soil vapour, and surface water, as well as decommissioning and remediation programs, and remediation system operation and maintenance, including the direct oversight of contractors.
- Assisting with the preparation of a variety of technical reports.
- Supporting project managers with project planning and coordination, reporting, and tracking schedules and budget.
- Assisting with technical and financial proposal preparation.
- Able to work independently and in small teams, including ability to work in remote locations and adapt to conditions/resources.
- Supporting other technical disciplines and exposure to technically varied and multi-disciplinary projects.
- Working collaboratively and communicating effectively with the project team.

- The salary range for this position is $36.00 - $38.72. Final agreed-upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.

Qualifications
- Minimum of a two-year environmental technician diploma required.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in contaminated site work including leading and supporting environmental site assessments (Phase I, II, and III ESAs), soil and groundwater sampling (including environmental drilling experience utilizing methods that include solid-stem auger, hollow-stem auger, direct push, sonic drilling and bedrock coring), and remediation programs (including directly supervising contractors performing ‘high-risk’ work such as drilling, demolition and/or excavations).
- 3 to 5 years of relevant knowledge and practical application of health & safety requirements unique to oil and gas facilities, construction sites, subsurface investigations, and contaminated sites. Preference will be given to applicants already possessing training certificates including First Aid/CPR, POST Level II, Ground Disturbance Level II (Alberta) and Ontario Book 7 Traffic Control.
- Must have past experience working in remote locations (e.g. Canadian Territories)
- Must possess professional status or eligibility for professional status with a professional organization (P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag., E.I.T., G.I.T., A.Sc.T, P.Tech, C.E.T etc.)
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and regular access to a reliable vehicle for travel to job sites/clients
