Where You’ll Make a Difference Every Day As the Shift Supervisor in Municipal Enforcement Services, you’ll lead frontline operations, support and mentor enforcement staff, and help ensure our community standards are upheld with professionalism, fairness, and integrity. You’ll ensure Municipal Enforcement Officer activities are conducted in accordance with applicable legislation, municipal by-laws, and health and safety regulations. How You’ll Support the Team In this role, you will assist with the coordination of day-to-day operations and assignment of work, and also have the following accountabilities: Provide oversight at a shift level of By-law Enforcement, Animal Control and Mobile Safety and Security Response. Responsible for field supervision of Municipal Law Enforcement Officers staff, including, providing expertise, monitoring performance, coaching/mentoring, training and evaluating of staff health & safety compliance, and risk assessment. Assist with prioritizing officer workloads and assignments, to ensure that the needs of the Division are accomplished in a timely manner. Ensure health & safety regulations, programs, and procedures are adhered to; coordinate safety meetings as required, and ensure compliance with procedures, municipal by-laws and provincial legislation. Coordinate enforcement complaints and assist with investigations and responses to public complaints and requests for information and meet with the public as a representative of the Corporation, as required. Oversee daily scheduling, shift coverage, overtime and attendance matters as per the collective agreement. Assist in ensuring that daily operations related to animal impoundment and care are being properly performed, in accordance with internal and external policies and legislation. Ensure officers’ location and status are closely monitored via GPS and radio communications, to ensure officer safety protocols are being maintained. Prepare and complete analytical and statistical reports, as required. Review and approve contents of occurrence notes, notebooks written orders and notices and other Divisional documents for accuracy and completeness, and to ensure adherence to procedural and legal requirements. Authorize MLEOs to close/clear files or direct additional work to be undertaken before closing the file. Coordinate public awareness, target enforcement programs, campaigns and special projects regarding by-laws and associated enforcement policies, target industries, and community associations. Review all court matters prior to prosecution by the Corporation and liaise with prosecution on all matters respecting by-laws; attend court as required. Conduct and assist in emergency response and investigations as required, alongside or in the absence of a qualified Municipal Law Enforcement Officer. Liaise with Police, Fire, Thunder Bay District Health Unit and others to develop an integrated service delivery approach.
