Position Summary:
The Tax Accountant will support the Director of Taxation in managing the Firm’s domestic and international tax compliance functions. This role is responsible for assisting with multi-state tax filings across more than 20 jurisdictions, supporting foreign tax filings and audits, and contributing to new tax compliance initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical tax knowledge, experience with partnership taxation, and exposure to international tax matters within a professional services or law firm environment.
This position offers the opportunity to work closely with leadership on complex tax matters, regulatory compliance, and process improvements across the Firm’s global operations, including offices in London, Frankfurt, and Brussels.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist with all aspects of the Firm’s tax compliance and reporting functions, including:
Federal & State Tax Compliance
- Assist with preparation and review of the Firm’s federal partnership tax return (Form 1065) and related state tax filings across 20+ jurisdictions.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors and provide required documentation and supporting schedules.
- Review state apportionment and state tax filings for accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with preparation, review and distribution of Schedule K-1s to partners.
- Prepare quarterly federal and state estimated tax payment calculations.
Assist with:
- IRC Section 1446 federal withholding tax.
- NYC estimated Unincorporated Business Tax (UBT) payments.
- Non-resident state withholding tax requirements.
- Composite and pass-through entity tax filings.
International & Foreign Tax Compliance
- Support international tax compliance initiatives for the Firm’s foreign offices, including London, Frankfurt, and Brussels.
- Assist with foreign tax filings, reporting requirements, and coordination with foreign tax advisors.
- Handle foreign tax audits and respond to information requests from international tax authorities.
Other Tax Compliance & Special Projects
- Assist with various tax compliance matters, including:
- Form 6166 U.S. residency certifications.
- Form CT-33-D filings.
- Guaranteed payment agreements.
- Sales and use tax matters including monthly filings, payments and audit support
- Assist with implementation of new tax compliance initiatives, process improvements, and internal controls.
- Conduct tax research and prepare supporting documentation and analyses as needed.
- Interact with partners, finance leadership, and external advisors regarding tax-related matters.
Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- Master’s degree in Taxation or related field preferred.
Experience
- 5–15 years of relevant tax experience required.
- Prior experience in public accounting and/or professional services environment preferred.
- Experience with partnership taxation strongly preferred.
- Experience with multi-state tax filings and compliance required.
- Experience with foreign tax filings, international tax compliance, and tax audits required.
- Law firm or professional services industry experience strongly preferred.
Skills & Abilities
- CPA strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and international tax regulations.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
