Job Summary:
Are you passionate about making a meaningful impact in the lives of students and families? Join our team as a School-Based Therapist, where you’ll provide critical mental health support directly within Indianapolis Public Schools.
In this role, you will deliver on-site counseling and behavioral health services during school hours, helping students overcome emotional and behavioral challenges so they can succeed both academically and personally. You’ll work as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team while building strong relationships with students, families, and school staff.
Depending on licensure status, individuals hired into this role may hold the title of Therapist (licensed) or Qualified Behavioral Health Provider (QBHP / license-eligible).

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual, group, and family therapy services to students within a school setting
- Support students’ emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs to improve academic success
- Conduct intake screenings, comprehensive assessments, and clinical evaluations
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans using evidence-based practices
- Manage a caseload in alignment with clinical and supervisory expectations
- Respond to crisis situations and provide immediate intervention and support when needed
- Collaborate with teachers, school staff, families, and community partners to coordinate care
- Participate in clinical staffing, treatment team meetings, and case consultations
- Serve as a liaison to ensure coordinated and holistic care for students and families
- Deliver prevention, intervention, and psychoeducational services as appropriate
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation
- Support students and families through transitions of care, including discharge planning
Education and/or Experience Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related behavioral health field required
AND meet one of the following pathways:
- ✅ License-Eligible Pathway (QBHP):
- Eligible to pursue licensure in Indiana
- Willing to complete supervised clinical hours and licensing requirements
OR
✅ Licensed Therapist Pathway:
- Active LMHC, LCSW, LMFT, or equivalent license in the state of Indiana
- Active LMHC, LCSW, LMFT, or equivalent license in the state of Indiana
Experience providing mental health, behavioral health, or school-based services preferred
Experience with assessments, treatment planning, and interventions preferred
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and current automobile insurance
- Must meet credentialing and background screening requirements
- Ability to maintain licensure or licensure eligibility as required
- CPR/First Aid certification within required timeframe (if applicable)
Skills:
- Strong clinical judgment and ability to assess and diagnose behavioral health needs
- Experience or interest in working with children, adolescents, and families
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices and trauma-informed care
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with students and school staff
- Ability to work independently while remaining accountable to supervision
- Strong time management and documentation skills
- Ability to manage crisis situations effectively
- Cultural competence and commitment to equitable care
- Proficiency with electronic health records and technology
Employment Requirements:
- Successful completion of background screening, including criminal history, abuse/neglect, and fingerprinting
- Completion of New Hire Orientation and required trainings
- Maintain all required credentials, certifications, and ongoing training compliance
- Ability to provide services during school operating hours
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform primarily sedentary work with occasional movement between school and community settings
- Frequent use of hands and arms for documentation and computer work
- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 10 pounds
- Ability to travel between school sites and community locations as needed
- Ability to respond appropriately during crisis situations
