Essential Functions
Promote a cooperative and professional work environment through effective communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
Clean and decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment using approved methods and equipment.
Inspect reusable instruments to ensure functionality, cleanliness, and compliance with standards.
Sort, assemble, and package instruments and surgical sets accurately.
Operate sterilization equipment to produce sterile products and reduce the risk of nosocomial infections.
Ensure adequate availability of sterilization supplies and preparation solutions.
Perform daily checks of autoclaves and Steris units using biological indicators and air removal test kits; maintain accurate sterilization logs, records, and charts.
Maintain current technical knowledge and competency in sterile processing practices.
Provide age‑ and developmentally appropriate care in accordance with Age‑Specific Care Guidelines for populations served.
Collaborate with department staff to ensure instruments, equipment, and supplies are available for scheduled procedures.
Education, Experience, Licensure & Certification
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Certified Sterile Processing Technician (CSPT) required.
Skills & Qualifications
Ability to operate sterilization equipment, washer sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaners, flash autoclaves, and high‑vacuum autoclaves.
Effective communication skills for collaboration with medical and surgical professionals.
Knowledge of basic and specialty operating room instrumentation.
Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks.
