WHO WE ARE
Relm is the only specialty insurer dedicated to supporting the world’s most innovative industries.
Whether it’s with startups harnessing zero-gravity conditions on the ISS to manufacture blindness-curing retinas, global crypto exchanges democratizing crypto trading, or biotech pioneers using gene-editing technology to advance personalized medicine, Relm works lockstep with innovators to understand and underwrite businesses shaping the future.
Relm’s team operates out of offices in London, New York, Dubai, Miami, Bermuda, executing market-leading insurance solutions for companies operating in digital assets and web3, AI, the space economy, financial technology, biotech, and more.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Where regular insurers look backwards, Relm differentiates by looking ahead. We operate at the forefront of innovative industries by hiring curious minds with deep sector experience. To continue helping businesses build the future, we need all of our team members to demonstrate curiosity, creativity, courage, and optimism. We need them to be accountable for ideation but able to execute collaboratively. In short: we hire people whose inquisitive minds help them break ground.
We’re looking for a Lead Reserving Actuary to play a critical role in shaping Relm’s reserving function.
This is a highly visible position, working closely with senior leadership, underwriting, and finance to ensure our reserves accurately reflect the evolving risk landscape we operate in. You’ll combine technical depth with commercial awareness, delivering insights that inform decision-making at the highest level.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Lead the end-to-end reserving process, ensuring robust and accurate reserve estimates across our (re)insurance portfolio
- Develop and continuously enhance reserving methodologies, adapting them to new and emerging risk classes
- Analyse trends across claims, exposure, and portfolio dynamics to inform assumptions and decision-making
- Deliver clear, concise insights on reserve movements to senior leadership on a quarterly basis
- Partner with underwriting and finance teams to ensure a deep understanding of the business written and its implications for reserving
- Design and implement advanced analytical frameworks (e.g. stochastic reserving, technical provisions)
- Own regulatory and statutory reserving outputs, ensuring compliance across jurisdictions
- Act as a key point of contact for external stakeholders, including auditors and actuarial partners
- Drive continuous improvement in processes, tools, and data utilisation within the reserving function
- Contribute to broader strategic initiatives and provide ad hoc actuarial insight where needed
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:
- Qualified actuary (e.g. FIA, FCAS) with strong P&C reserving experience, ideally within (re)insurance
- Proven experience operating in a senior role, with the ability to influence decision-making at executive level
- Deep technical expertise across reserving techniques and forecasting methodologies
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, accounting, and regulatory frameworks
- Experience working across multiple jurisdictions and navigating complex regulatory environments
- A commercial mindset - able to connect actuarial outputs to real business decisions
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear, actionable insight
- A collaborative approach and the ability to build strong relationships across teams
- A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment with a high degree of ambiguity
WHAT WE OFFER
