Job Description

Circle K Energy Trading SA (CKETS) is part of the Global Fuel Organization and is responsible for the entire fuel supply for our European retail entities, as well as fuel trading activities.

Across Europe, fuels are undergoing a significant transition toward greater sustainability, driven by evolving regulations and market demands. The Renewable Energy Directives (REDII and REDIII) establish binding targets for the EU to increase the share of renewable energy in final energy consumption by 2030.

It is of crucial importance that Circle K, throughout the entire supply chain, can secure fuel sustainability mass balancing and maintain Proof of Sustainability for biodiesel, bioethanol, renewable feedstock, and advanced biofuels to grow the business while complying with EU requirements.

To support these efforts

Circle K Business Centre is looking for a new colleague to join our team as:

Biofuels controller

Type of Employment:  Temporary position until 30.04.2027.

Location: Riga, Latvia

Visa requirements: A valid work permit from the EU/EEA (relocation assistance is not provided)

THE ROLE

As a Biofuels Controller, you will report to the Trading Team and a major player in the international fuel retail market and work closely with Trading, Supply Chain, Logistics, and Distribution functions. The role offers a unique opportunity to build your knowledge of the biofuels industry, RED (Renewable Energy Directive) targets, and EU climate requirements, while supporting regulatory biofuel reporting and sustainability compliance processes.

You will engage in Circle K’s journey to become a preferred destination for sustainable fuels in Europe, while helping translate sustainability and regulatory requirements into operational and commercial decisions. Beyond reporting, the role offers exposure to key business areas and the opportunity to contribute to the company’s sustainable fuel ambitions.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Manage PoS (Proof of Sustainability) registration and verification.

  • Ensure RED (Renewable Energy Directive) and ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) compliance across biofuel transactions.

  • Understand and verify compliance of biofuel feedstock/material types, country of origin, and GHG (Greenhouse Gas) savings calculations.

  • Maintain, reconcile and monitor biofuel mass balances and volumes.

  • Implement process and system improvements (Circle K biofuel mass-balance digital tool, Bio Analysis Power BI tools).

  • Collaborate with Trading, Supply, Logistics, and Sustainability teams to ensure data integrity and alignment.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Degree in Economics, Finance, Business Management, or a related field.

  • Experience in compliance, controlling, reporting or data-driven roles.

  • Strong Excel skills; experience with Power BI or other BI tools is an advantage.

  • Experience with ERP or trading systems is beneficial.

  • Fluency in English to communicate with colleagues across Europe.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex information to stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of RED, ISCC, or GHG reporting is advantageous.

Key Competencies:

  • Attention to Detail: Precision with numbers and fuel volumes in preparing reports and ensuring regulatory compliance.

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to process large volumes of data, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize effectively.

  • Problem-Solving: Proactive approach to identifying risks or gaps in compliance and proposing solutions.

  • Communication: Ability to communicate complex regulatory requirements clearly to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively across departments and with external partners to collect and share information.

  • Time Management: Ability to organize workload efficiently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Motivation: Demonstrates curiosity and a strong drive to learn and grow within the biofuels, sustainability, and energy sectors.

WHY WORK WITH US
