The IT Director of Ecommerce Systems will own the definition, delivery, architecture coordination, and continuous improvement of our new custom-developed ecommerce platform and its integration with the respective Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and ERP systems, including finance, stock, and supply chain management. This platform will be developed to serve all Eurofins businesses globally that engage customers through ecommerce. The role will partner closely with business stakeholders, sales teams, supply chain experts, and software engineering teams to define and execute enterprise-wide ecommerce vision and strategy across multiple business units, geographies, and customer segments.

This role requires strong business and technical acumen, outstanding communication and leadership skills, and a proven track record of leading large-scale digital commerce transformations, including platform modernization, global standardization, and multi-market rollout.

POSITION & OBJECTIVES:

  • Global Platform Leadership & Scale
    • Experience designing and scaling high-volume ecommerce ecosystems supporting complex product catalogs and multi-country operations.
    • Expertise in managing global platform scalability, localization, and regulatory considerations (e.g., multi-currency, multi-language, regional compliance).
    • Proven ability to lead platform consolidation or harmonization efforts across fragmented business units or legacy systems.
  • Product Ownership & Strategy
    • Define and manage the product backlog, roadmap, and priorities for the ecommerce platform and its integration with LIMS, finance and supply chain systems.
    • Collaborate with business leaders, scientists, supply chain managers, and IT stakeholders to align product vision with company strategy.
    • Translate business requirements into clear user stories and acceptance criteria for software development teams.
  • Architecture Coordination & Development Management
    • Coordinate the overall technical architecture of the ecommerce platform, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and scalability requirements.
    • Oversee development management activities, ensuring effective planning, execution, and governance of software development efforts.
    • Collaborate closely with engineering leads to ensure robust, secure, and maintainable system design and implementation.
  • Customer Experience & Journey Optimization
    • Deep expertise in end-to-end ecommerce customer journey design, including acquisition, onboarding, ordering workflows, fulfillment, and post-purchase engagement.
    • Proven ability to drive world-class UX/UI and conversion optimization strategies, leveraging data, experimentation (A/B testing), and customer insights.
    • Experience integrating B2B, B2C, and hybrid commerce models, especially in complex, regulated industries.
  • Delivery Management
    • Partner with engineering, QA, and DevOps teams to ensure timely, high-quality delivery of product features.
    • Facilitate Agile ceremonies (e.g., sprint planning, backlog grooming, reviews, retrospectives).
    • Manage dependencies, risks, and cross-functional coordination across global teams.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on product functionality, roadmap, and delivery progress.
    • Balance competing priorities while ensuring the product delivers maximum value to customers and the business.
    • Collect and analyze feedback to inform continuous product improvements.
  • Ecommerce, LIMS & Supply Chain Integration
    • Oversee integration between the ecommerce platform, LIMS, finance, stock, and supply chain systems, ensuring seamless data flow and process automation.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards relevant to multiple geographies, products and industries including biopharmaceuticals, clinical diagnostics, and direct to consumer sales.
    • Optimize workflows for inventory management, order fulfillment, and laboratory operations.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience as an IT Director – Ecommerce Platforms, Head of Commerce Systems, Enterprise Applications Director, or IT Program Director/Manager in software product development (Digital Commerce & ERP), including experience overseeing development teams and delivery lifecycles.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex enterprise platforms (ideally with ERP, LIMS, or supply chain components), with exposure to system architecture coordination and design governance.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban), with hands-on experience managing development backlogs and sprint execution.
  • Experience working with ecommerce platforms (e.g., Shopify Plus, Magento, custom-built solutions) and their integrations with ERP/LIMS/CRM systems.
  • Proven ability to translate technical requirements into business value.
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience managing stakeholders across multiple countries and functions, including technical and engineering stakeholders.

Preferred:

  • Experience in life sciences, biotech, pharmaceutical, or healthcare technology.
  • Familiarity with data privacy regulations (GDPR, HIPAA) and compliance frameworks.
  • Understanding of APIs, microservices, and modern software architectures, including experience contributing to architectural decisions or reviews.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in data-driven decision making.
