As a Research Scientist Manager – Level 2 your role at Promontory, UT will be pivotal in supporting missions critical to national and global security.  Ready to join forces with our visionary team? 

This Manager 2 position will contribute directly to the support of program technical needs in Nozzle and Nozzle Materials related issues. You will serve as an individual contributor and manager of a group of about 10 material specialists and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in nozzle materials and carbon textiles.

This position will work a 9/80 or 4/10 schedule.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Direct engineering methodology and maintenance tasks for the Nozzle Materials team

  • Coordinate Team tasks, budgets, and schedules with program managers, IR&D leadership, project engineers, and others in PS

  • Oversee Team member workloads and task progression and completion

  • Mentor Team members in personal growth and career development

  • Lead and document periodic formal and informal performance reviews and determine merits and promotions

  • Review and update standard work requirements and guidelines

  • Determine staffing requirements

  • Support initiatives of engineering leadership

  • Provide technical leadership for Nozzle and C-C TPS efforts

  • Ensure team supports both near-term production needs and long-term growth efforts

  • Ensure proper support for a variety of customers (internal and external)

  • Grow and develop technical knowledge and depth within the group

  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science discipline with 8 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 6 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 4 years of professional experience.  

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance

  • Strong understanding of nozzle design, manufacture, and testing

  • Must possess at least 3 years of nozzle experience

  • Strong knowledge of and experience with production program requirements

  • Experience in conducting/supporting technical reviews

  • Working knowledge and/or experience across multiple engineering disciplines and their interactions

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees, management, and customers

  • Prior experience guiding and mentoring lower-level engineers and scientists

 Preferred Qualifications:             

  • Strong understanding of C-C designs and products (both 2D and 3D)

  • Previous lab and/or production experience with C-C

  • Previous experience with IRAD compliance requirements

  • Previous experience of achieving work through others

  • Previous experience working through interpersonal conflict

  • Experience generating Basis of Estimates (BOEs) for new work scope, and managing costs to an established budget  

  • Experience presenting to senior leadership

  • Proven leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills

  • Experience with anomaly investigations identifying cause and corrective actions

Northrop Grumman Total Rewards 

Primary Level Salary Range: $139,100.00 - $208,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
