As an emerging leader in the $10B+ communications API market, we empower global brands to connect better with their customers, employees, and partners through transformative communications experiences. Vonage API solutions empower organizations to build their custom omnichannel communications structure, allowing them to reach and engage customers on their preferred schedule and channel, including voice, video, and messaging. Think of a rideshare service instantly connecting with customers, hospital staff conducting remote monitoring, customers verifying their identity before completing a purchase, AI virtual agents servicing customers around the clock, and much more.
Why This Role Matters
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to independently lead and drive complex, cross-functional projects across the organisation. As part of the central PMO office, this role is essential in ensuring the successful delivery of high-priority strategic and operational initiatives spanning multiple business domains: from product development and engineering transformation to enterprise-wide operational programmes.
Working closely with senior stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Operations, and Business functions, the Senior Project Manager will be a trusted advisor and influential leader, driving projects with a high degree of autonomy, providing consultative guidance on methodology and resourcing, and helping to shape the way the PMO operates and grows.
Your Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
- Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables in alignment with the business project sponsor and senior stakeholders.
- Independently develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, timelines, and roadmaps for complex, cross-functional initiatives.
- Drive projects autonomously in critical phases, proactively managing risks and resolving issues to ensure timely delivery.
- Track and report on key project milestones, status, risks, and budget considerations, providing clear visibility to all stakeholders.
- Select, combine, and tailor project delivery approaches (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, hybrid) to best fit the needs of each initiative.
- Lead project retrospectives, capture lessons learned, and drive continuous improvement across the project lifecycle.
Stakeholder Management & Senior Relationship Building
- Build strong, trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across different departments, establishing non-formal authority through credibility and consistent delivery.
- Navigate and resolve conflicts between stakeholders with competing interests, facilitating alignment and consensus on complex issues.
- Craft and deliver persuasive, clearly structured communications to gain buy-in from functional leads and business leadership.
- Act as a trusted advisor to project sponsors: proactively flagging risks, shaping decisions, and managing expectations at all levels of the organisation.
- Adapt communication style and depth to suit diverse audiences, from project team members to senior leadership.
Business Impact & Strategic Alignment
- Assess project impact on the overall business and evaluate trade-off decisions in terms of broader business benefits and risks, not just project-level constraints.
- Proactively identify strategic dependencies, opportunities, and risks across assigned initiatives.
- Clearly articulate project purpose, business rationale, and value to the team, stakeholders, and leadership.
- Recommend and influence decisions that protect or enhance the business case of assigned initiatives, ensuring projects remain aligned with organisational goals.
Process, Governance & PMO Contribution
- Align project execution with the company's governance framework, ensuring compliance with PMO standards, tools, and processes.
- Lead improvements within assigned projects and actively take ownership of selected PMO assets (templates, playbooks, standards).
- Actively contribute to PMO organisation building, participating in initiatives that improve team-wide delivery quality and consistency.
- Provide guidance and informal mentoring to less experienced Project Managers on the team.
- Proactively share best practices, lessons learned, and methodological insights with the wider PMO team.
What You'll Bring
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in project management, with a proven track record of independently leading complex, cross-functional projects in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
- Advanced knowledge of PMBOK and Agile methodologies (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban), with demonstrated ability to effectively combine and tailor waterfall and agile approaches to the needs of each project.
- Proven experience managing projects without direct authority, leveraging stakeholder engagement, influence, and non-formal leadership.
- Strong ability to assess project trade-offs in terms of broader business impact, going beyond project-level constraints to deliver genuine business value.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills: able to deliver complex ideas clearly and concisely, resolve conflicts constructively, and build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to drive projects autonomously in critical phases, providing consultative guidance to project teams on methodology, tools, and resourcing.
- Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, MS Project, Monday.com).
Experience We Consider a Plus:
- A proven track record of successfully delivering complex, cross-functional projects with clear business impact, across a range of project types and business domains.
- Demonstrated expertise in stakeholder management, conflict resolution, and working effectively in a matrixed organisation.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to guide cross-functional teams and influence decisions without formal authority.
- A collaborative mindset and genuine commitment to contributing to team growth: sharing knowledge, improving processes, and helping develop others.
