Position Location This position will be located at the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, Louisiana. Job Overview The Logistics Specialist supports warehouse, shipping, receiving, inventory, and material handling operations by receiving, storing, issuing, transporting, and processing materials, equipment, and supplies throughout the facility. This role ensures materials are properly tracked, staged, delivered, and documented in accordance with company and customer requirements. Responsibilities Essential Job Duties: Receive, inspect, sort, and process incoming materials, equipment, and supplies. Verify quantities, shipping documentation, purchase orders, and material condition for accuracy. Receive and track materials electronically in Maximo or other inventory systems. Identify materials requiring special handling, storage, or property control processes. Stage, kit, and deliver materials, parts, and assemblies to designated locations and end users. Generate manifests and maintain records for daily deliveries and shipments. Prepare, package, label, and process outgoing shipments, including hazardous materials when applicable. Pick up returnable items and process materials for disposal or destruction. Maintain records of inbound and outbound materials, equipment, and shipments. Operate material handling equipment including pallet jacks, forklifts, and other powered equipment to load, unload, transport, and stage materials. Provide internal courier and delivery support throughout the facility. Stock shelves and pull materials for customer pickups and reservations. Assist customers with locating requested materials and identifying replacement items. Support warehouse housekeeping, organization, and inventory accuracy. Perform other related logistics and warehouse duties as assigned. Key Responsibilities: Perform quality work within established deadlines with minimal supervision. Maintain compliance with all company, customer, safety, and environmental requirements. Communicate and coordinate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, customers, suppliers, and delivery personnel. Maintain accurate inventory, shipping, and receiving records with strong attention to detail. Support a safe, organized, and team-oriented work environment. Identify and report operational or safety concerns as appropriate. Support operational flexibility during peak workloads and surge requirements. Job Requirements Mandatory: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Experience in logistics, warehouse operations, shipping/receiving, inventory control, or related field. Computer proficiency and ability to work within inventory or logistics systems. Knowledge of logistics, warehouse, and material handling processes. Ability to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and related material handling equipment. Must maintain all required certifications applicable to assigned duties. Must maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain the required NASA badge. Ability to successfully complete all required employment verification and badging documentation processes. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Ability to work outside normal schedules when operational needs require. Preferred: Experience using Maximo or similar inventory management systems. Experience supporting government or industrial facilities environments. Experience handling hazardous materials shipments. Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills. Strong attention to detail and inventory accuracy. Ability to work independently while following detailed instructions. Ability to work effectively in a multicultural, team-oriented environment. Working Conditions: Work is performed in warehouse, shipping, receiving, storage, and industrial environments. Regular exposure to moving equipment, delivery vehicles, and material handling activities. Work may be performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Occasional exposure to hazardous materials and industrial equipment. Physical Requirements: Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, and pull throughout the workday. Ability to work overhead with materials weighing up to 20 pounds. Ability to walk up and down stairs frequently. Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods, including steel toe shoes, safety glasses, hard hats, and gloves. Ability to tolerate extreme heat and cold for extended periods.
