Overview POSITION SUMMARY The Telemetry Monitoring Technician is responsible for interpretation, documentation, and continuous observation of patient’s cardiac rhythms who are on continuous cardiac monitoring or Telemetry, admitted in all Nursing care units. Maintains established process and steps while performing analysis of EKG strips and understands process flow for reporting changes in cardiac rhythm. Qualifications NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS Education: High school diploma or GED Certification/ Licensure: Must complete National Telemetry and National EKG course from the National Telemetry Association and obtain certification within three (3) months upon hire. Certification must remain unexpired and in good standing, for the duration of employment. Must maintain a current valid certification of the following throughout employment: Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association Experience: No experience required Other Skills and Abilities: A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. If no previous employment history, a professional reference is considered. All employment references or professional reference must reflect and indicate success in each one of the following areas: Positive working relationships with others Possession of high ethical standards and no history of complaints Reliable and dependable; reports to work as scheduled Able to respond appropriately in stressful situations Able to provide direct patient care in a kind, patient, and compassionate manner Ability to communicate clearly and tactfully with patients, their family, and the members of the healthcare Complete Patient Sitter Competency Training upon hire. MENTAL AND PHYSICAL EFFORT The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical: This position is sedentary to active and requires prolonged sitting when observing telemetries, standing, walking, bending, reaching with hands and arms, pushing, or pulling. May lift up to 10 pounds in the work area. Must have the following vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to hear alarms on equipment, calls and instructions from physicians or department staff. This position involves repetitive use of both feet, both hands and ability to grasp simple/light and the ability of fine dexterity in both hands. May require long hours and frequent weekend work. Mental: Must be able to prioritize and use good judgment. Must be able to coordinate a variety of issues while being frequently interrupted. Must communicate effectively and with tact in stressful situations. Environmental: The job requires prolonged exposure to computer screen time, fumes or airborne particles and occasional exposure to wet humid conditions, working near moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation and vibration. The typical noise level for this position is moderate. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsible for monitoring, interpreting, measuring, documenting six (6) second strips of patients on continuous cardiac monitoring or Telemetry at least every 4 hours a shift and with any rhythm change. Responsible for double checking orders for telemetry, entering patient data on central monitor. Communicate initial cardiac rhythm and report any changes to the Primary RN or Attending Physician as needed. Provides updates to Primary RN before beginning and end of each shift) on current cardiac rhythm and other significant alarms. Obtain a list of nurses assigned to patients on continuous cardiac monitoring or Telemetry at the beginning of the shift. Notify the nursing care unit staff of any lead failures, low battery, and no data alarms observed in central monitor and request to correct these failures. Ensure that all telemetry boxes are working with new batteries and sanitized prior patient use. Complete biomedical service report for telemetry boxes and central monitors needing preventive maintenance or repairs. Responsible for storage and inventory of telemetry boxes and rechargeable batteries. Attend all mandatory in-service and department meetings as required and scheduled. Maintain positive working relationships with staff and contribute to teamwork within the department. Adhere to TCRHCC mission, goals, and policies. Ensure proper PPE is always worn while on duty including but not limited to, face mask, gloves, gown, isolation gown, NIOSH-approved N95 filtering facepiece respirator or higher, if available), and eye or face shield. Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. (see CDC website for most current updates). Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee, and external customer satisfaction. Perform other duties as assigned. Additional Duties for Inpatient Units: May float as a patient sitter to other units as needed.
