Job description

The Senior Digital Buildings Engineer serves as a dual-domain expert, providing technical leadership across both smart building integration and mission-critical infrastructure. As a Master Systems Integrator (MSI) and Controls Engineering lead, the role orchestrates the design, configuration, and integration of diverse BMS, IoT, and facility management systems into secure, vendor-agnostic cloud environments—such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud—to enable data-driven operational efficiency. Niagara specific expertise is preferred Simultaneously, it would be an added advantage if the role as any experience to Data Center developments.

In addition to client-facing roles and responsibilities, Senior DB engineer  is expected to be an active member of the Digital Buildings Engineering team, to make a positive contribution to the development of the team and wider FPC business, working effectively with all FPC colleagues to successfully deliver projects and support FPC’s business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

The responsibilities for this role include:

To ensure smooth integration, optimization, and security of applications on cloud platforms. Troubleshoot issues, manage performance, and align cloud solutions with business objectives. Delivery of technical and some non technical (as training and knowledge allows) related engineering Services and projects for clients in accordance with the Proposal, Scope of Work (SoW) and/or Engagement Letter. Manage own workload, communicating and escalating any issues to line manager accordingly

  • BMS Controls Engineering & MSI Delivery

    • Design & Configuration: Author and review BMS architectures, control philosophies, and sequences of operation; oversee the programming and configuration of controllers and graphics for optimal performance.

    • Building Systems Integration: Analyze and map legacy BMS, HVAC, and IoT systems to ensure compatibility with cloud migration and master systems integration (MSI) strategies.

    • Cloud Onboarding: Architect secure data pipelines (AWS/Azure/GCP) and establish protocols to ingest, normalize, and process on-premises building data.

    • Security & Compliance: Enforce enterprise-grade cybersecurity through end-to-end encryption and access controls to safeguard critical operational data.

    • Validation & Delivery: Manage full-lifecycle engineering services per the SoW, conducting rigorous testing and troubleshooting to resolve connectivity and compatibility issues.

    • Stakeholder Training & Reporting: Partner with IT and Facilities teams to align cloud solutions with business goals while maintaining comprehensive system documentation and performance reports.

  • Device Qualification and Testing
  • Testing, validating, and troubleshooting application drivers across a range of IoT devices and gateways.
  • Collaborating with device manufacturers to support driver development, improve compliance, and resolve integration issues.
  • Managing and maintaining devices in an IoT testing lab, including physical installation, setup, configuration, and lifecycle management.
  • Supporting MSIs with deployment of compliant solutions and onboarding of building systems to Cloud Platforms.
  • Working with various tools and platform developers to identify defects, suggest improvements, and support feature validation.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Liaise with IT, facility management, and operations teams to understand building system requirements and constraints.
  • Provide technical support and training to on-site staff on cloud-based building management tools.
  • Testing & Troubleshooting:
  • Conduct pre- and post-onboarding testing to validate data integrity and system performance.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to data transmission, system compatibility, and network connectivity.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of onboarding processes, system configurations, and cloud settings.
  • Generate regular reports on onboarding status, system performance, and key metrics
  • Mentorship

    • Mentor and train DB engineers, sharing knowledge and best practices to enhance the overall capabilities of the team.

    • Act as a subject matter expert, supporting the team in complex problem-solving and guiding them in engineering solutions and customer service excellence.

    • Lead knowledge-sharing sessions and help develop documentation and training resources for ongoing team development.

  • FPC Responsibilities:
  • Represent FPC in a professional manner internally and externally, and achieve a high level of customer satisfaction for all work performed
  • Be an effective Digital Building Services team member, communicating with colleagues and working collectively to contribute to the development of Digital Buildings Services Group and the FPC business as a whole
  • Report to line manager, acting in accordance with their requests and direction and those of FPC management
  • Manage own workload, communicating and escalating any issues to line manager accordingly
  • Act in accordance with all FPC employment policies and procedures, including FPC Employee Handbook, Health & Safety and Time and Expenses Reporting
  • Carry out any other duties reasonably requested by FPC Management
  • Required Qualifications & Experience

    Experience

  • 8 to 12+ years of experience in the design and configuration of building automation systems, cloud integration, or IT infrastructure roles.
  • Hands-on experience in systems integration and related industries such as architecture, design, or construction.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity best practices for cloud integrations.
  • Knowledge of edge computing and data preprocessing methods for IoT systems.
  • Technical expertise in delivering digital and smart building projects, including:

  • Digital Building Systems Integration (design, development, and implementation).
  • Building Controls Systems & Automation.
  • Cybersecurity best practices.
  • Device Qualification and Testing
  • IP Networking (IPv4, IPv6, switching, routing, DHCP, WiFi, structured cabling, etc.).
  • System Audits & Site Surveys.
  • Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Controls Engineering or a related field.
  • Certifications (Preferred but not mandatory)

  •  Experience with BMS systems like Niagara, Delmatic, Delta,  LoRaWAN. Certifications in any of these are beneficial . Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and relevant cloud services (data storage, IoT hubs, etc.). Certification in any of the cloud platforms is beneficial.
  • Data center specific BMS design, configuration and Commissioning experience will be an added advantage
