Here’s a Glimpse of the Job

The Department of Chemistry at Texas A&M University is looking for a Research Assistant to assist in the Hagler Lab, which investigates how RNA interactions influence gene expression in cells using chemical biology approaches. The Hagler Lab focuses on measuring, predicting, and modulating RNA interactions to advance understanding of RNA regulation and support the development of therapeutic strategies.

In this role, the Research Assistant will design and conduct experiments, analyze and interpret data, and contribute to the development of new experimental methods to achieve project goals. The position also involves providing skilled administrative and managerial support, including assisting with research planning and coordinating specific phases of the research project.

Opportunities to Contribute

  • Supports the design, planning, and coordination of experiments focused on RNA interactions in cells by selecting appropriate methods, maintaining detailed research records, and assisting undergraduate, graduate, and other research staff.

  • Utilizes analysis software, computers, and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data and statistical analyses, evaluate research experiments, and summarize and report findings.

  • Assists with the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of research equipment, and communicates with vendors to procure new equipment and consumable materials for the lab.

  • Assists in preparing and writing funding proposals and manages financial accounts related to research projects.

Qualifications

  • Appropriate Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or biology or a related field.

A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or biology.

  • Prior professional/lab experience with cell culture and/or small molecule synthesis.

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.

Special Note: This position is funded from a grant and/or contract which is renewed under the provisions for the grantor of the contract. Your offer of employment is dependent on continued funding.
