Beca’s Planning & Environment team helps clients design and deliver projects that create lasting environmental, social and community value. The Opportunity

This is a new role in our Newcastle office, supporting the continued growth of our Planning & Environment capability in the Hunter region. Newcastle is a key hub for infrastructure and energy investment in NSW, offering the chance to build strong local knowledge, develop client relationships, and contribute to projects that shape the region.

As part of a broader national Planning & Environment team, you will work closely with colleagues across Australia and have the opportunity to contribute to projects across NSW as well as interstate, including Victoria and Queensland. This provides exposure to a diverse pipeline of work spanning infrastructure, energy, and water sectors.

In this role, you will support the delivery of environmental planning, approvals and management across a diverse range of projects. You will contribute to the preparation of environmental assessments, approvals documentation and compliance outputs, working within regulatory frameworks and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Preparing and contributing to environmental planning, assessment and approvals documentation (e.g. REFs, EIS inputs, environmental management plans)
  • Coordinating inputs from technical specialists to support integrated project delivery
  • Applying an understanding of NSW planning and approvals frameworks  to project work
  • Supporting project delivery across infrastructure, energy, and water sectors
  • Assisting with client engagement and building strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Contributing to bids and proposals, including methodology inputs and preparation of supporting materials
  • Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams across Newcastle and nationally

You will coordinate inputs from technical specialists, apply professional judgement to planning challenges, and deliver high-quality project outcomes with guidance from senior team members. About You

To be successful in this role you will have experience in environmental planning or a related field and will be looking to make the next step in your career as someone passionate within a collaborative consultancy environment.

You will bring a passion for environmental planning and a working knowledge of environmental planning legislation and approval frameworks. You will have experience preparing or contributing to environmental planning and approvals documentation, such as Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Reviews of Environmental Factors (REF) environmental management plans or similar.

You are organised and proactive, with the ability to coordinate inputs from multiple disciplines and manage your own workload to meet deadlines. You apply sound judgement to problem solving and are comfortable working within established processes while developing your technical capability,

Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues a, clients and stakeholders.

You will also have:

  • A tertiary qualification in environmental planning, environmental science or a related subject.
  • Exposure to infrastructure, energy, or water projects
  • Familiarity with NSW and Commonwealth environmental planning and approvals legislation and frameworks
  • An understanding of, or willingness to work with, environmental planning frameworks in other Australian jurisdictions
  • A demonstrated interest in professional development demonstrated, for example through membership of (or eligibility for) a relevant industry body such as Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand or Planning Institute of Australia.
