Job description
Long Bay Surf Club is one of Auckland’s favourite local destinations - a laid-back coastal gastropub bringing together great food, drinks, entertainment and community. Located in the heart of Long Bay Village, we’ve built a reputation as the go-to local spot for everything from family lunches and casual catch-ups through to busy nights and big events.
We’re on the hunt for a Senior Sous Chef to join the team and step into a key leadership role within the kitchen. This is more than a traditional Sous Chef role - we’re looking for someone ready to act as the second-in-charge, supporting the Head Chef in driving standards, leading the team and taking ownership of kitchen operations when required.
The Role
As Senior Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Head Chef to lead day-to-day operations while ensuring consistency, quality and a high-performing kitchen culture. When the Head Chef is not on site, you’ll confidently step into the lead role and take ownership of service and operational requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting and driving kitchen leadership alongside the Head Chef
Running kitchen operations in the Head Chef’s absence
Leading and developing the kitchen team
Managing stock control, ordering and inventory processes
Maintaining food quality, consistency and presentation standards
Ensuring compliance with food safety, health and safety requirements
Supporting rostering, training and team development
Driving smooth, organised and efficient service execution
Assisting with menu development and operational improvements
What we’re looking for:
Previous Senior Sous Chef or strong Sous Chef experience within a high-volume venue
Leadership experience with the ability to motivate and develop teams
Strong understanding of stock management, ordering and cost control
Excellent organisational and communication skills
A hands-on approach with the ability to lead from the front
Strong understanding of food safety and compliance requirements
Someone who thrives in fast-paced environments and enjoys creating a positive kitchen culture
Why join us?
Work within a busy and established venue with a strong local following
Opportunity to step into a genuine leadership position
Join a supportive and growing hospitality group
Career progression opportunities across NZ Venue Co venues
Competitive wage and team benefits
If you're ready to take the next step in your leadership journey and make a genuine impact, we’d love to hear from you.
