Job Title: Cook

Job Summary

Reporting to the Nutrition Manager, the Cook is responsible for preparing and delivering high-quality meals for residents, guests, and employees while ensuring compliance with food safety standards and therapeutic diet requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and serve meals in accordance with planned menus, production sheets, and standardized recipes
Ensure meals are presented attractively and served on schedule
Follow proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures
Complete and document daily temperature checks for refrigerators, freezers, and storage areas
Prepare foods for therapeutic and specialty diets as required
Make and document menu substitutions as necessary
Maintain adherence to production schedules and budget guidelines
Comply with all regulatory requirements and departmental policies
Participate in special events, theme meals, and menu planning activities
Attend meetings, training, and in-service education sessions
Support Resident Rights and contribute to a respectful environment
Participate in Quality Improvement and health & safety programs
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Food Handler’s Certificate (required)
Red Seal Certification (preferred)
Experience in large quantity food preparation, preferably in healthcare or retirement settings
Knowledge of therapeutic/specialty diets and food regulations
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move heavy or hot items
Second language considered an asset
Current Vulnerable Sector Check (or willingness to obtain)
