SUMMARY

Seeking a Construction Supervisor in the Facility Operations Division of the General Services Department. The Construction Supervisor will be responsible for directing and supervising a diverse field staff (painting, carpentry, roofing, etc.) in the maintenance of various City Buildings, Parking Lots, Parking Decks, and Structural Systems. Provide project management for building improvement projects and other programs.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct City staff, architects, engineers, and construction contractors in the accomplishment of building and site work renovation projects

  • Manage and coordinate the operation of City facilities

  • Assist in new construction projects including reviewing design documents, representing Facility Operations in progress meetings, providing construction oversight and performing on-site inspections

  • Manage the City’s snow & ice removal program

  • Represent the division on City-wide committees and initiatives

  • Hire, supervise, mentor, and provide direction for direct reports

  • Position requires daily presence at facility shop (40 hours per week). Remote/Telework is not an option for this position

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans, and documents

  • Requires excellent verbal & written communication skills

  • Excellent coordination and project management skills

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Great customer service skills

  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize work and complete assignments with minimal supervision

  • Requires after-hours and weekend emergency work as needed during snow & ice events, critical facility shutdowns, civil unrest, extraordinary events, etc.

  • Requires a good driving record, current driver's license, and the ability to receive and maintain a city driving permit

  • Prefer excellent computer skills with proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite

  • Superior knowledge of computerized work management systems

  • NC State General Contractors license is a plus

  • LEED, IFMA, and/ or BOMI certification is a plus

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years as a senior management analyst, project manager, program manager or property manager

  • NC General Contractors license

  • BOMI RPA, FMA, or SMA

  • IFMA FMP or CFM

  • LEED AP or Green Associate

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma/GED with seven (7) years of experience in construction or facility management or equivalent experience, skills and education to perform the essential functions of the position

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
