Job description

This Knoxville, TN-based role will be responsible for supporting the daily operations of the commodities trading desk, ensuring accurate trade capture, validation, and processing, managing risk exposures, and collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will work closely with traders, operations, and finance teams, gaining valuable exposure to the commodities markets.

Essential Functions

  • Trade Capture and Confirmation: Accurately capture and confirm all commodity trades (physical and derivatives) in the trading system, ensuring adherence to internal controls and procedures.
  • Trade Lifecycle Management: Monitor the complete trade lifecycle, from execution to settlement, resolving discrepancies and ensuring timely processing.
  • Reconciliation: Perform daily and monthly reconciliations of trading positions, P&L, and inventory, identifying and resolving any variances.
  • Risk Management Support: Assist in monitoring market risk, credit risk, and operational risk, ensuring compliance with risk limits and policies.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Prepare and distribute daily, weekly, and monthly reports on trading activity, positions, and P&L. Analyze data to identify trends and potential issues.
  • P&L Attribution: Generation of daily and monthly P&L attribution, ensuring accurate reflection of trading performance.
  • Liaison: Act as a key point of contact between traders, operations, finance, and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation within the middle office function.
  • Project Participation: Participate in ad-hoc projects related to system implementations, new product launches, and regulatory changes.
  • Compliance: Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with relevant regulations and internal policies.

 

  • This position requires candidates to be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a middle office, operations, or related role within the commodities trading industry is preferred, but strong graduates with relevant internships will be considered.
  • Strong understanding of commodity markets (e.g., energy, metals, agriculture) and trading instruments (e.g., futures, options, swaps).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with trading systems is a plus.
