As a Payroll Supervisor reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will oversee and coordinate the day-to-day payroll activities, supervise payroll processing staff, and provide analytical and customer-focused support for payroll initiatives. The person filling this role must be knowledgeable in payroll practices and regulations. You will be eligible for a hybrid schedule with Monday through Wednesday in Kinder Morgan’s downtown Houston office and Thursday and Friday being remote-work days. We look forward to seeing your application! Key Responsibilities Coordinate daily payroll work activities, including organizing, prioritizing, and monitoring departmental workload. Supervise and audit payroll processors’ work to ensure accuracy, policy compliance, and adherence to deadlines. Monitor work-in-progress and review completed payroll transactions. Oversee the processing of special employee payments in accordance with company policy, including education reimbursement, relocation assistance, and other non-routine payments. Serve as a subject-matter expert by responding to internal inquiries related to payroll processing, policies, and procedures. Identify opportunities for process efficiencies and lead continuous improvement initiatives. Assist with system enhancements, upgrades, testing, and implementations. Exercise sound judgment in decision-making within the scope of authority and appropriately escalate issues when necessary. Collaborate with Human Resources and other internal stakeholders to resolve complex payroll issues and support organizational initiatives. Ensure payroll processes comply with all federal, state, and local tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and company policies. Stay current on changes in payroll legislation and ensure timely implementation of required updates and process changes. Review and approve payroll adjustments, corrections, and off-cycle payrolls. Ensure proper handling of wage garnishments, levies, child support orders, and other legally mandated deductions. Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance management of payroll staff. Develop and maintain payroll training materials, job aids, and standard operating procedures. Coach and mentor payroll team members to build technical expertise and career development to promote operational excellence and superior customer service. Foster a collaborative, accountable, and customer-focused team environment. Perform other related duties as assigned. What You Will Do Required Qualifications Minimum of 5–7 years of multi-state payroll processing experience. Associate’s degree in Accounting or a related field; Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) credential may be accepted in lieu of the degree. Prior experience leading, mentoring, or supervising a payroll team.Strong working knowledge of payroll principles, regulations, and best practices. Proven ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated experience collaborating cross-functionally, particularly with Payroll and Human Resources teams. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) credential. Experience with Smart Office and/or Lawson payroll systems. Strong communication, leadership, and supervisory skills. Excellent organizational and time-management abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook. What You Need Minimum of 5–7 years of multi-state payroll processing experience. Associate’s degree in Accounting or a related field; Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) credential may be accepted in lieu of the degree. Prior experience leading, mentoring, or supervising a payroll team.Strong working knowledge of payroll principles, regulations, and best practices. Proven ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
