About the Role
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for ensuring all plant equipment operates at maximum efficiency and output. This role oversees preventative maintenance programs, manages mechanical and electrical breakdowns, and drives continuous improvement initiatives. The supervisor supports production goals by coordinating maintenance activities, promoting safety, and ensuring high-quality, reliable execution of work.
This position has primary responsibility for maintenance operations, with extended scope into production supervision and contractor management as needed. The role directly impacts equipment reliability, plant efficiency, safety performance, and overall operational success.
Job Duties
- Lead and enforce a strong safety culture by ensuring all team members perform their work in compliance with established safety policies and procedures
- Ensure optimal equipment performance by overseeing TPM programs, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical failures, and minimizing downtime.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and overall plant performance.
- Maintain strong technical knowledge of plant operations and maintenance activities, including contractor-performed work.
- Coordinate maintenance scheduling with the planner, ensuring alignment with operational priorities and optimal team utilization.
- Monitor and communicate current and anticipated equipment conditions to production, ensuring timely awareness of maintenance needs.
- Create and manage work requests in the maintenance system, including SOW and BOM, while coordinating activities with internal teams and external partners.
- Ensure team members have the tools, parts, and resources needed to safely and effectively perform their duties.
- Evaluate employee performance, support development, and provide coaching and feedback.
- Manage and oversee contractor and third-party work to ensure safety, quality, and compliance with standards.
- Ensure all work activities—internal and external—are performed according to established procedures.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture across all maintenance activities.
- Monitor maintenance performance metrics, including schedule completion and equipment reliability.
- Collaborate with the reliability team by providing feedback on equipment performance, assisting in assessments, and supporting reliability improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records and documentation.
What You Can Bring to the Role
Education required
High School Diploma or GED
Experience required
- Strong safety leadership with experience enforcing high-risk work controls.
- A relevant Trade Craft background
- 5+ years of supervisory experience, prefer experience leading Trade Craft personnel
- Demonstrated ability to lead in a union environment and work effectively within a labor agreement.
- CMMS experience managing work execution (work order quality, scheduling coordination, closeout discipline).
- Strong organizational, leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work on other shifts and/or come in early or stay late as needed.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and maintenance/planning using computer software systems preferred
Communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with management, team members, and contractors.
- Ability to train employees on new and current processes.
