Job description
The successful candidate is an important part of the team and will provide Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing care to adult inpatient Psychiatry patients. The RPN role includes medication administration, delivering patient care to individuals who are admitted due to serious psychiatric conditions or symptoms.
Your responsibilities include:
- Performing behavioral observations, mental status assessments, and physical assessments on all assigned patients
- Administering medications and monitoring patients' responses to pharmaceutical care interventions
- Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of patient care, observations, and interventions in accordance with organizational standards
- Providing ongoing communication and collaboration with charge nurses, physicians, and other interdisciplinary team members regarding patient progress and care needs
- Implementing therapeutic nursing interventions and building therapeutic relationships with patients to support recovery and engagement in treatment
- Monitoring and promoting patient safety, including suicide and harm prevention precautions, and responding promptly to behavioral changes or crisis situations
- Supporting patients in medication compliance and providing education regarding psychiatric medications and treatment plans
- Participating in discharge planning activities and patient advocacy to ensure continuity of care and successful community reintegration
- Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to contribute to individualized treatment planning and goal-setting for assigned patients

- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current Heart & Stroke approved Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire
- CPI certification required
- Psychiatric nursing certification in progress required
- 1 year minimum acute adult mental health experience required
- Must possess a strong understanding of psychopharmacology
- Must possess a strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing, addiction issues and risk assessments
- Must possess good assessment and crisis intervention, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to perform well in stressful situations and problem solve.

- Satisfactory employment and attendance record
- Must be physically able to do the job, which involves heavy lifting and intensive physical effort
The ideal candidate is strong in patient centered care in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment and should be ready to drive change and innovation. We require a person with good communication skills with a clear patient focus with the ability to manage execution and to foster teamwork and cooperation.
Hours: Monday to Sunday; various rotating 12 hour shifts (Hours are subject to change based on operational needs)
Salary: $36.08 to $39.92 per hour
