Job Description
Experience
- 3 years of similar experience in a healthcare environment
- Experience in the identification, care, and follow up of on-field and sports-related injuries
- Experience in clinical treatment aspects for sports medicine patients
- Experience in musculoskeletal and neurological physical examinations
- Experience in concussion etiology and treatment
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in health science or related field
Certification Summary
- Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC) - National Athletic Trainers Association
- Licensed in State of Georgia - Georgia Board of Athletic Trainers
- Orthopedic Technologist Certified (OTC) - National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologists
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong fundamental knowledge regarding musculoskeletal medicine and non-central nervous system neurology
- Knowledge of musculoskeletal and neurological physical examinations
- Knowledge of concussion etiology and treatment
- Willing to work a flexible schedule and perform a variety of work-related tasks as needed
Job Responsibilities
- Performs clinical triage and initial assessment of patient's history, complaints/injuries and assists in diagnosis and development of treatment plans.
- Coordinates marketing efforts by establishing relationships with and participating in personal visits in the community, including schools, sports clubs, and various organizations to help promote the sports medicine practice.
- Attends miscellaneous sports events, programs, and/or activities to help create a presence and awareness of the sports medicine practice and provide educational and informational opportunities in the community.
- Orders and performs ImPACT testing related to concussion.
Provides technical assistance to sponsoring physician in providing patient care:
- Patient and family education.
- Skin preparation.
- Applies, modifies, and removes casts, bandages, braces, and splints.
Provides assistance to sponsoring physician in surgery
- Sets up patient and equipment.
- Maintains environment and equipment.
- Assists with surgery, such as suctioning and retraction.
- Immobilizes and supports limbs and joints.
- Applies dressings, bandages, strappings, etc.
Returns patient phone calls, emails, faxes, physical training scripts.
- Assists in research/data collection.
- Assists physician in reading, reviewing, and addressing imaging studies.
