Finance & Accounting Specialist

The challenge

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Finance & Accounting Specialist to support the local finance function in Portugal, within a multinational environment. This role will be responsible for accounting operations, statutory and tax compliance, as well as reporting to Headquarters.

The ideal candidate will act as a key support to the local CFO, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery of financial information, while contributing to process improvements and business support.

What you will do

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of all accounting transactions in accordance with local GAAP and group policies
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings
  • Support the preparation of financial statements and management reports
  • Perform account reconciliations and balance sheet reviews

Group Reporting (HQ)

  • Prepare and submit reporting packages to HQ within defined deadlines
  • Ensure consistency between local accounts and group reporting requirements
  • Support variance analysis and provide explanations to HQ
  • Assist in budget, forecast, and planning processes

Tax & Compliance

  • Prepare and submit all statutory tax declarations (VAT, CIT, withholding taxes, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with local tax and accounting regulations
  • Liaise with tax advisors and authorities when required
  • Support tax audits and inspections

Administrative Tasks

  • Support treasury activities, including payments and cash flow monitoring
  • Assist in accounts payable and receivable processes
  • Maintain proper documentation and filing for audit purposes
  • Support internal controls and compliance procedures
  • Preparation of official statistical reports (INE and BdP).

Audit & External Relations

  • Act as a key contact for external auditors
  • Prepare documentation and analysis required during audits
  • Ensure timely resolution of audit queries

Process Improvement & Business Support

  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and efficiency
  • Support implementation of group tools and systems (e.g., SAP, reporting tools)
  • Provide financial support to other departments when needed

What you need to succeed

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a multinational environment
  • Strong knowledge of local accounting standards and tax regulations
  • Experience with ERP systems (preferably SAP S4/Hana)
  • Proficient in MS Office tools, particularly Excel (e.g. pivot tables).
  • Experience with group reporting tools is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Fluent in English (mandatory)
  • Portuguese (native or fluent)
