Location: Brighton, MI
Schedule: Non-benefitted Contingent Variable Shifts (Day/Afternoons)
Pay rate: $51.27

Implements the evaluation and treatment of medically disabled patients using established procedures.  Provides education to patients and family to deal with present disabilities or prevent further disabilities.  Provides consultation to health care personnel and public in matters of occupational therapy.

  • Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, employees, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.

  •  Demonstrates understanding of Institute of Medicine triangle and incorporates components into daily job duties safety patient centeredness effectiveness efficiency timeliness equity

  • Evaluation of Patient

  • Evaluates patients’ physical and functional status as related to medical diagnosis.

  • Administers tests reflective of current standards of practice including:  sensory, manual muscle, range of motion,  and other evaluation techniques.

  • Evidence of timely treatment planning based on objective findings.  Establishes short and long term therapy goals, formulates treatment plans consistent with goals.

  • Utilizes critical thinking to determine priorities in treatment to address barriers.

      Treatment of Patient

  • Treatment reflects current standards of practice.  Treatments using recognized procedures such as therapeutic exercise, activities of daily living, functional training and application of modalities.

  • Delegates care appropriately to assistive staff based on state practice act.

  • Provides quality patient care considering age specific, developmental and cultural needs through competent practice and application of the physical rehabilitation process.

Documentation

  • Completes daily documentation on day of service.

  • Accurately completes charges for therapy services provided on day of service.

  • Charges appropriately based upon current reimbursement guidelines specified by carriers.

  • Regularly documents patient’s progress to goals.  Provides updates to physician and other treatment members.

     Communication

  • Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships.

  • Seeks and shares information in an appropriate fashion.

  • Communicates effectively with patients, families and other health care personnel.

      Organizational Skills

  • Maintains productivity based on department standards.

  • Demonstrates flexibility, adaptability to meet patient care demands.

  • Demonstrates good home management to meet requirements of job.

  • Approaches conflict in a constructive manner.  Helps to identify problems, offer solutions and participate in their resolution.

  • Assumes accountability for performance of job duties.

Occupational Therapist

  • Assists with program development as requested by Leadership.

  • Mentors co-workers in area of clinical expertise.

  • Participates as Clinical Instructor with students as requested.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSURE

  • A Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.

  • Certification by American Occupational Therapy Certification Board as an Occupational Therapist, Registered. Current Michigan registration as an Occupational Therapist.
