Job description
The Torstenson Scholars Program in the Department of Sociology has three research assistant positions for students who are fluent (speaking, writing, and reading) in one of each of the following languages: Spanish, Somali, or Hmong. The student researchers will work to translate a survey and all supporting documentation on the mental health impact of Operation Metro Surge in the Twin Cities and support the data collection process. The work includes the following:
- Translating the survey and supporting documentation.
- Working to recruit research participants in the Latin American, Somali, or Hmong communities of the Twin Cities.
- Conducting interviews with research participants in Spanish, Somali, or Hmong.
- Translating these interviews into English.
- Meeting regularly with the primary investigator for this research project.
- Additional tasks as assigned.
- Must be a currently enrolled Augsburg Student.
- Must be fluent (at least speaking, but ideally writing and reading as well) in one of the following languages: Spanish, Somali, or Hmong.
- Ability to complete approximately 100 hours of work over the summer and, if needed, into the 2026-2027 academic year.
- Must be a social science major, preferably sociology or psychology.
- Strong time management skills, organization skills, adaptability, and sense of accountability.
- Ability to work independently.
- Attention to detail and consistency.
