Overview Requires the fundamental understanding of the principles, concepts, and methods of environmental protection program work. Must demonstrate the ability to apply this knowledge while performing a variety of duties involving the assistance with coordination and/or monitoring, of projects, or activities. Qualifications EDUCATION REQUIREMENT Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university preferably in Environmental Management, Sustainability, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Health Geology or Physical Science; or six (6) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT No additional experience is required. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. May be required to travel to training events, conferences, and temporary work locations. Additional licenses and/or certifications may be required depending on work and funding agency requirements. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Must possess basic computer, technical writing, and communication skills. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in outside weather conditions; is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals; in extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Performs work assignments related to environmental inspections, compliance, monitoring, regulation, and research. Performs field work that involves the identification and collection of various forms of environmental materials. Performs activities for the calibration, use, and routine maintenance of equipment and scientific instruments. Participates in educational outreach activities on environmental issues that pertain to the Cherokee Nation and to local communities, schools, and colleges. Organizes and uploads information into various databases. Attends trainings and conferences related to the program as needed. Reviews documents prepared by others to ensure quality assurance/quality control. Conducts research activities pertaining to the current and past use of properties that are under evaluation. Works with other Tribal Governments to collect environmental data, review of technical reports, and to assist with the preparation of reports, presentations, meetings, and conferences. Represents the department effectively when in contact and with other relationships with the public and other government agencies. Performs various duties associated with the following programs: National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Brownfields Site Assessment, Superfund Reporting, Air Quality Monitoring, Water Quality Monitoring, Lead Based Paint Inspections/Risk Assessment, Asbestos Inspections, Mold Assessments, Home Energy Audit, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) General Assistance Program, Pesticides, Solid Waste, Lead Certification/Accreditation Program, and Underground Storage Tank Training and Inspections. Other duties may be assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES No supervisory responsibilities are required.
