Overview GDC IT Solutions is currently seeking a Virtualization Engineer to work one day a weeek on site in Harrisburg, PA. As a Virtualization Engineer, you will be responsible for the architecture, implementation, optimization, and lifecycle management of the enterprise VMware virtualization environment. This role serves as a subject matter expert across the VMware ecosystem, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and scalability of virtualized compute, storage, and networking platforms. Responsibilities Responsibilities • Design, deploy, and maintain VMware vSphere clusters, ESXi hosts, and core virtualization infrastructure. • Architect and support VMware vSAN environments, including storage policy design, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and capacity planning. • Design and maintain VMware NSX-T networking and security components, including micro-segmentation. • Administer VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and integrated components in alignment with enterprise architecture standards. • Manage and optimize vCenter Server operations, templates, host profiles, and distributed configurations. • Perform lifecycle management activities using VMware Lifecycle Manager (vLCM), including upgrades, patching, and compliance management. • Implement automation and orchestration solutions using VMware Aria Suite, vRealize Automation, Orchestrator, and PowerCLI. • Monitor virtualization platform performance, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to maintain system stability. • Maintain security compliance across virtualized environments, including hardening, auditing, and access control management. • Collaborate with storage, networking, security, and application teams to deliver integrated enterprise solutions. • Develop and maintain architectural documentation, standard operating procedures, and disaster recovery runbooks. • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and participate in on-call support rotations. Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications • Extensive hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter within large-scale enterprise environments. • Strong expertise with advanced VMware technologies including vSAN, NSX-T, VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), or VMware Aria Suite. • Proficiency with PowerShell and PowerCLI automation. • Deep understanding of enterprise compute, storage, networking, and virtualization architectures. • Experience with lifecycle management, capacity planning, and performance tuning. • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills. • Proven ability to manage complex technical projects independently with minimal supervision. Preferred Experience • Experience implementing automation and orchestration solutions within enterprise virtualization environments. • Experience supporting highly available and disaster recovery-focused infrastructure platforms. • Familiarity with enterprise security frameworks, compliance standards, and virtualization hardening best practices. • Experience mentoring junior engineers and supporting collaborative infrastructure operations.
