About the Role:

Flinders University is seeking an internationally distinguished researcher in Biomedical Engineering with expertise in Advanced Manufacturing to lead a high-impact research program and strengthen the University’s global reputation in cutting-edge biomedical innovation. This is a rare leadership opportunity to shape strategic research direction, build world-class collaborations, and drive translational outcomes in a supportive, research-intensive environment.

The role is appointed initially as a research-only position for five years, transitioning to a continuing Teaching and Research appointment.

The Associate Professor/Professorial Research Fellow will provide leadership and vision by:

  • Lead a bold and internationally competitive research program in biomedical engineering and advanced manufacturing
  • Secure competitive grant funding and generate external research income
  • Build strong national and international collaborations across academia, industry, and government
  • Supervise and mentor Higher Degree by Research students and early-career researchers
  • Provide strategic leadership in research direction, grant development, and publication excellence
  • Contribute to research impact, translation, and the University’s global profile

About You:

You are a visionary and inspiring leader, driven to make a lasting impact through innovative research in biomedical engineering and advanced manufacturing. You thrive in collaborative environments, mentoring colleagues and students, and building strategic partnerships across industry, government, and academia. You communicate with influence, lead with integrity, and embrace opportunities to advance the field at a national and international level.

You will have:

  • PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing, or related field
  • Strong international research profile with high-impact publications and sustained grant success
  • Leadership experience in managing research teams and complex projects
  • Proven track record of HDR supervision and research mentoring
  • Established national and international collaborations
  • Strong understanding of research translation, including IP, commercialisation, and impact
  • For Level E: Substantial leadership contributions to research excellence and impact at a national and/or international level.

You will be considered for appointment at Level D or Level E, depending on your experience, research leadership profile, and alignment with the position capabilities.
