The Human Resources Supervisor is a hands-on HR builder and operator responsible for turning a high-volume, fast-moving HR function into a structured, scalable, and high-performing system. This role leads day-to-day onboarding compliance, credential tracking, employee records, and employee relations support while continuously improving the processes behind them.
This leader partners closely with operations to ensure HR practices are compliant with California employment law, operationally practical, and aligned to a rapidly growing workforce. The expectation is not just to maintain the work, but to redesign it, streamlining manual processes, strengthening data and document integrity, and building capability within a developing HR team.
What You Will Get To Do:
- HR Operations & Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and support HR Coordinators and HR Clerical staff while driving accountability, service excellence, and operational efficiency across the HR team.
- Onboarding, Compliance & Employee Records: Oversee high-volume onboarding, employee file management, I-9s, E-Verify, background screenings, and HR documentation to ensure compliance and audit readiness.
- HRIS, Payroll & Workforce Support: Maintain HRIS data integrity, support payroll-related processes, and ensure accurate employee records, status changes, and documentation across systems.
- Employee Relations & HR Support: Partner with leaders and employees to address workplace concerns, support investigations, provide policy guidance, and ensure consistent HR practices.
- Training, Benefits & Leave Administration: Oversee training compliance, coordinate benefits administration, and manage leave of absence processes, including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, and ADA accommodations.
- Process Improvement & Compliance Management: Identify operational gaps, improve workflows and SOPs, support automation initiatives, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and company requirements.
MUST HAVE:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: 3+ years of progressive HR experience, including 2+ years in management within high-volume environments
- HR Compliance & Leadership Expertise: Strong knowledge of California employment law, employee relations, LOA, payroll, workers’ compensation, investigations, performance management, and HR process development, with proven success coaching teams and influencing leaders
- High-Volume HR Operations: Experience managing 100+ hires per week or 4,000–6,000 annually, including onboarding, compliance, and non-exempt workforce documentation
- HR Systems & Technology: Experience with HRIS/ATS, payroll, timekeeping, background check systems (e.g., Workday, Paycom, iCIMS, ADP, Paychex, Paylocity, Sterling, HireRight), and audit-ready record management
- Data & Microsoft 365 Proficiency: Advanced Microsoft 365 skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint) with ability to analyze HR data and translate insights into recommendations
NICE TO HAVE:
- Industry Expertise: Experience in healthcare, staffing, or other high-volume service environments
- HR Transformation Experience: Experience transitioning HR from manual to automated/HRIS-driven systems
- Training & Development Experience: Experience building onboarding or training programs
- Language Skills: Spanish fluency with ability to communicate clearly in both English and Spanish
SKILLS CRITICAL FOR SUCCESS:
- Builder & Process Mindset: Designs scalable HR systems, improves workflows, and eliminates manual inefficiencies
- High-Volume Execution: Thrives in fast-paced environments managing large-scale hiring and onboarding
- People Leadership: Coaches and develops early-career or inexperienced HR teams, building capability and accountability
- HR Systems & Data Integrity: Ensures accurate, audit-ready HR data, records, and documentation across systems
- Stakeholder Influence & Judgment: Builds trust across HR and operations, knowing when to act, escalate, or align cross-functionally
- Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Uses HR data and trends to drive decisions and improve outcomes
- Communication & Emotional Intelligence: Communicates clearly and diplomatically while demonstrating empathy, self-awareness, and trust-building in sensitive situations
- Adaptability: Performs effectively in ambiguous, evolving, and partially structured environments
WHY YOU WILL LOVE THIS ROLE:
You will step into a hands-on leadership role where you directly build structure from manual processes, improve high-volume HR operations, and develop a growing team. This is a chance to drive meaningful change, strengthen California HR compliance, and partner closely with leadership in an environment where your impact will be immediate and visible.
