Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Biomedical or Mechanical Engineer to support the development of novel interventional medical devices. These devices integrate needle/catheter engineering, optical imaging, and implantable microdevices to improve precision in cancer diagnostics and treatment.Key Responsibilities
• Design and prototype medical needles, catheters, and microdevices using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360)
• Fabricate parts using CNC machining, 3D printing, and related tools
• Assemble and test devices for preclinical (ex vivo/in vivo) and early-stage clinical use
• Collaborate with physicians, scientists, and engineers across oncology, optical imaging, and device development
• Support in vivo studies in coordination with the interventional radiology and tumor biology teams
• Assist with regulatory documentation and submissions for IRB and FDA pathways (e.g., IDE)

Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required

Experience
Experience in device engineering in a hospital, industry, or academic 1-2 years preferred and Experience in medical engineering 0-1 year preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong CAD/modeling skills (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar)
- Hands-on experience with CNC machining and rapid prototyping
- Familiarity with catheter or needle-based device development
- Experience with 3D printing for functional prototypes
- Knowledge of medical device regulatory processes (e.g., risk assessments, design controls, IRB/FDA submission support)
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple prototyping tasks in parallel
Location & Time Commitment
- Based in Boston/Cambridge, MA
- Full-time preferred; part-time or flexible options available for the right candidate
- Must be available for regular in-person lab work (device assembly/testing, support for experiments)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Skill in management of engineering projects and/or personnel.
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team of scientist, engineers and medical doctors.
- Ability to diagnose and solve technical and/or system problems of moderate complexity.
- Computer literacy to the level of at least word processing, spreadsheets, databases, graphics, statistics, engineering tools and programming.
- Skill in technical writing.
- Experience using fabrication tools.
